My wife bought me this as an anniversary gift. Well she gave me the money to pick out what I wanted at the gun show.

It's a 1935 Ishapore Short Lee Enfield MkIII. At least that's what I can decipher so far.
Well back to the net to search for more info

I'm not that much into Enfields, I only own like 13 of them! Might shoot one of mine in a military bolt action rifle this weekend.

I have a Mosin, Mauser, and a Lee-Enflied and I have to say the Lee-Enfield has the smoothest action I have ever encountered.

YES... The rearward bolt handle that the British came up with is SMOOOOOTH! Many people thought it looked flimsy, at first, but we all know that turned out to not be true... I LOVE the SMLE! Good accuracy, too!

I was thinking about getting a Spanish Mauser in .308 but after this I might opt for the Ishapore 2A in .308.

there was a vidio going around of a guy shooting the enfield. i don't remember which model it was, but it seemed to be as fast as an auto. your right they do have a very smooth action.
every time it pull one out to sell it i play with it for a while and back into the safe it goes

if you buy a ishapore 2A try to find one some has already cleaned up. i spent 2 or 3 days of heavy cleaning on one ( do it outside) and it turned out great under all the paint/oil/grease/dirt/etc. mine had very nice parked finish under all of it.
i don't plan on cleaning anymore of them any time soon.:icon_biggrin:

My 1935 Ishapore SMLE is still oozing cosmoline from the nooks and crannies I did not get to. Today I plan on baking the stock in the Florida sun and get most of the cosmoline and dirt out.
I know the Ishy 2A'a are chambered for 7.62mmx51mm but I've been reading where people have had their Ishy's re chambered to handle the 308 cartridges. From what I have read it's just a matter of shaving off some threads on the barrel. If that is true then once I find a Ishy I can afford I'm getting it re chambered to 308 so I can shoot either 308 or 7.62 surplus with no problems.
