just ordered a bunch, with a drilled receiver original mosin sniper - it arrives the 13th the day i have to go take care of a jury summons :(

My sales rep told me century is almost out of 54r and didnt know if more would be in, so i ordered a bunch of it. I didnt want to lose out on this stuff like i did the 308

i got a respectable amount of the 8mm in time, but not enough, and i wish i had WAY more.

i didnt want to get screwed on the 54r as well.

i still have a case of the spam in a can albanian (my favorite)
a case of the czech silver tip
a case of the 7n1 sniper ammo
and a case of i think hungarian copper washed stuff

the copper washed stuff has always given me troubles. The czech stuff shoots AWESOME accuracy wise, and has a penetrator inside of it, but it has always been hard to shoot in a mosin for me. i havent shot any of the 7n1 yet was kinda saving that stuff to see what the svt40 could really do. The albanian, i have shot a couple thousand rounds with it. It is my all time favorite 54r cause it makes such a HUGE fireball out of a m38/m44 mosin. I have never shot the yellow tip, but i hear its good stuff. i hated ordering it and spending the money i dont have, but im sure ill never regret it.

like capt ron says, you can't have too much ammo. get it while you can , it won't be around forever. just hold off for 2 days and let me order some first. :)

I too have found that the Czech shoots the most accurately from my two 91/30s. I bought 4 cases from AIM a while ago.

I recently bought 6 cases of the bulgarian brass cased stuff and found it to be not near as acurate.

I too have shot the Silver tipped spam can out of my m44s and the fireball
is most impressive.

Everything I have seen in any of these sealed cases has been really, really clean ammo.

Too bad Mike hasn't thought up a conversion scheme for the CETME so it
could shoot 54R..:=)

Was that thru Century arms? How much are they going for? It'll have to be that or a Finn fer me 3rd mOSIN.

I can't praise that Czech "Tz" marked 172gr. mild steel core enough. It kicks a bunch, but is really accurate and in my testing it'll shoot thru 3/4" of mild rolled steel plate (well, the jacket strips off after about 1/2 the dist, and then the penetrator keeps going!) the boattail projectile is 1/2 again as long as that 147gr. Bulgy (which is not boattailed, which may be one of the reasons it is less accurate), and I think that stabilizes it better in flight like the long .270cal Winchester bullet.
I did note some tears in the steel case aftr shooting it (near the neck sizing), but not every round (maybe 1 in 5-10), and it did not seem to affect perfomance. The powder int he case looks like stick powder, you know...the little cylinders of powder that look like chopped up cordite. It burns pretty darn clean, with no sooty smoke on the fire.

The bulgy is OK...I shot some last weekend at about 50yds, and it seemed pretty consistent outta the M-44. the stuff also has a huge fireball if you shoot it at dusk! The Quality control on these seems a little less, and the soldered tin box seems less structurally sound as the Spam cans you get the yelo tip and silvertip in. As a result some cases were dented from shipping, and I found two rounds out of a case of 300 that had split cases, and the bullet and powder were easily removed. The power in them is the little square cut stuff, and burns a bit dirty compared to the Czech heavy ball. Had no problems actually shooting it tho. If it is all you can get, it will do.

The Hungarian light ball 147gr with steelcore is also fine stuff! The stuff I have is the silvrtip, and I'll be picking up some yellotip (FMJ lead) at the show.

I have noted that the prices for this stuff have moved up into the 50-60USD range for the 440 round tin, which was 40-45USD just 4 months ago...so buy now, I'm sure it'll get tight. I'm gonna get as much as I can.

I saw some of that fabled Russki sniper ammo, but they wanted like 8USD for 20! It had beettr be some really good shite fer that price.

This stuff is good stuff. get some of each for a rainy day, and don't forget to stock up on some Bulgarian light and Czech heavy ball with steelcore.

Here's some yello/silvertip hungarian:
