there was a guy on gunco.com that makes the jaws to do the rivets with.
(harbor freight sells a cheap bolt cutter and you just swap out the jaws on them.) many ak's have been built using them. look in the gunco for sale section.
while your at HF. get a set of punches. if you break them just take it back and they will give you a new one.
get a 4# short handle sledge hammer also. get a package of the low carbon drill bits. 3/16",1/8" and 1/4".
i think i already pressed out of the barrel on your kit.
go easy around the trigger guard when you remove the guard the nut that holds the pistol grip is attached and it will break if not taken off easy. i broke a few and had to buy some from turbothis.
get a box of band aids.
good luck.
have fun.

Thanks for the replys guys.
Good advice ron....bandaids are a must..lol.
Got my flat bending jig in the mail today..its realy nice..1.0 and1.5mm flats.
Looks like i can bend em after i weld the lower rails on from the inside.
I have seen the bolt cutter tool...its on the list next
Also ordered a polish kit from apex...and new romy barrel.
I may as well get the ak bug outa my system and build a few more.

after you have built a dozen or so, you will start to get creative with all the extra parts you have left over in boxes. then it gets real fun. just remember to enjoy it. take your time. don't build when your tired because it is to easy to make mistakes or get hurt.
i don't need any more polish aks, but i have some polish under folders sets (complete rear sections) i have not use and a couple polish under folder receivers in the safe. so i may just order a couple for grins to build later. that is a good price for the polish kits
good luck and enjoy.

Mick, I forgot about this thread but I have the bolt cutter tool with green machine jaws. If you will buy a set of harbor freight bolt cutters I could send the jaws with the spot welder. Let me know.

Do you have a long rivet jig?

Do you have a long rivet jig? No, the rear trunions rivets I just form with body hammer and a dimpled piece of steel. The rivets swell up in the trunnion and just work the rivet to form a nice rivet head. I had Curtis's jig from AK Builder but I just don't use it because it is just faster for me to do it as mentioned above. I get a lot more crush and swell on the rivet.

I am glad you have good luck with that method, because I have not. The AK-builder may be slower but works great.
