Where's a good place to find SKS info on the net. I'd like some pictures, etc..I've got an SKS with a funky safety issue. It doesn't seem to want to stay in the safe position. Also, the stock screw doesn't want to go in the wood straight. Flat on two sides so I figure it only goes in one way. Any help is appreciated. BTW it's a Chinese type if that makes any difference.

Has the stock screw you are talking about been removed? It is not necessary to remove it ever. They do not always sit in a perfect 90 degree position either. I base this on the several Chinese SKS's I own. Has anything (dissasembly, cleaning, etc.) been done to the fire control group? I cannot remember the exact name of the forum, I think it is survivormans sks forum.

Uh, don't mess with that. Crossbolts on SKSs and Mosins should be left alone. They are not required for total disassembly...they just give the stock and parts support.

Thanks all! I'm cleaning it for my son who had it in pieces. The cross bolt may need replacing. The threads have been messed up. I was going to find what thread size it is and run a die down it to see if I can salavage it for him.

drine, I have never removed a cross bolt on any of my sks rifles, not sure why you would ever need too, as they seem to be nicely installed and staked. I would almost think a new stock, if you arent afraid of loseing matching numbers would be easier than messing with the cross bolt. I useally pick up clean wood stocks at gun shows for sks rifles for five to ten bucks.
