So what do you guys think of this rifle? It's considerably less than the Steyr Scout, and has more/better features then the Savage Scout which retails a hundred or two less. Too bad it takes the pricey as hell AI magazines. A synthetic stock would be nice too, although you could probably use or adapt an M77 stock to fit it.

I like it Ireally don't know much about them but I like the idea of a compact 308 brush gun.

I think it's a good looking rifle. I havent handled one yet but every m77 I've held felt great. I like the scout concept and adapted it to my marlin lever gun. I do have to agree with you about the mags they are wicked expensive.:sparta:

About $70 for the actual Accuracy International mags. Turns out Ruger actually sends them out with some AI spec mag made by another company. There are also some double-to-single stack teflon coated stainless steel mags made by another company also. Here's more on that.

I think it is a great gun. An all-around gun. It is not a sniper rifle, or an AK, but it is what it is, a great gun. I shot one once before when they first came out in the left handed version, and loved it. Synthetic stock would be nice. Keep it till the end. Don't bother with expensive ammo either, shoot Tula or silver bear.

I think Col. cooper would slap the Ruger engineers silly for using a WW1 mauser extended mag right where your hand goes when carrying. Our tastes are different: I thought it was ugly the second I saw it.
