What Model 870 do I have ?

I recently picked up a Remington 870 Magnum .Thats what it says on the receiver. It is gloss blue ,shiny bolt, with shiny wood, white spacers between recoil pad and wood and ventilated recoil pad. Receiver serial number is W467xxxM. The barrel date code is 1986, a 26 inch with Rem Choke. Is this an early Express or a 1986-1987 Wingmaster Magnum ?

I have never seen an Express that had anything even remotely shiny or pretty on it, but then I'm a Wingmaster person and in being so am biased.

If it is a Wingmaster it will say on the left side of the receiver "Wingmaster" in cursive writing. In 1986 I bought a gloss blue 870 Magnum like this one but with a 20" rifle sight slug barrel, the wood was shiny but not high gloss like the Wingmaster. I got one of the extras that the hardware store ordered in for the local PD back then.

My wood is very high gloss. Wingmaster is not on receiver. Remington Model 870 Magnum and serial number is all that is there. The barrel dated 1986 does not have to be the original barrel. Someone commented that just as they were about to introduce the Express line they made wingmaster magnums and saw no need to put Wingmaster on them as there was no express line yet.3010730108

I was also told mine was the forerunner to the Express but we have steel and aluminum parts in ours that are potmetal in the Express line. I have seen several hammer plungers that have gaulded into the potmetal trigger housings on the Express and the whole unit then needs replaced.

BTW, it is hard to completely believe barrel dates on shotgun barrels as they get swapped a lot so it may not be the barrel that left the factory on that gun.
In your situation I would believe the barrel and receiver match, and also that is a nice looking receiver and stock you got there.

Well I bought a Mossberg 18 1/2 barrel for a 870 and it went right on. I was cleaning it and noticed the front sight bead is protruding into the cylinder! They call this a slug barrel. 0.015 inches of screw would give a slug fits.
I can't get it out to file it down. Is it pressed in or screwed in?

It's screwed in. Trying to file such a little part is hard to do.

I think I would take it back and buy the Remington barrel.

Couldn't find a Remington Barrel 18 1/2 inch blued. Everything was 20 inch RS or 18 1/2 " Matte Blue . Would like to know where to get a Remington 18 1/2" ,3 inch chamber,blued, bead front sight. I order from a Gun Shop and they couldn't find any other ,but they don't look real hard. I don't order online myself because all I have is a debit card. Any suggestions?

You might want to try AI&P Tactical, I do not have any personal experience with the guy but he has a good reputation on the web. All he does is 870's he can get any Remington part.

aiptactical has a 18.5 " Police Barrel, Blued , Bead sight and I/C fixed. Will see if Kames can order from him. I would really like a 18.5 inch blued Rem Choke barrel, but I have only seen them in Matte Blue. I removed ,filed and replaced front bead on Mossberg 870 barrel and it's good to go. I still would rather have the Remington barrel. Thanks for the link.

I think you can order from AI&P yourself just give him a call. Also he has a lot of his stuff (compleat shotguns and parts) on gunbroker.com (at buy it now prices). I know for a fact that he accepts money orders I am not sure about personal checks, anyway you do not need a credit card.
