Hello, has anyone gone in and accurized a Type 99 in its military configuration? (ex free floated the barrel, glass bedded the action, upward pressure at the muzzle, etc.) I know that reloading will enhance the accuracy, but I wanted to see what kind of results others have gotten by hod-rodding it a little., Thanks!

if it has not been mess with already, i would just leave it alone. anything that you do to it will lower the value.
they are becoming less common in the market.
you can get the same results just doing a russian 91/30 ( they are selling for less than $100 and there are plenty of them around at least for now.).

for the amount of time, effort & money on either one i doubt if you will get much bang for the buck on them.

Please leave it be. I read this earlier this morning but couldn't reply. I agree with Ron and K98 in that a 91/30 would be my choice to tinker with. You can do some things that won't permanently alter them or go for broke and bed it, etc.. Those Type 99's are just not out there in abundance. I

Actually, if you watch GunBroker (and others) you can find 99's that have been somewhat sporterized for pretty decent prices. Some of these would actually have been prime collectibles if they weren't chopped--intact mums, excellent original bluing, little to no bore wear. Some almost bring tears to my eyes.

I imagine what you are looking for would be one with an intact barrel and maybe original sights. With a cut-down stock, you can probably find something for well under $200, and not feel so much regret (or the scorn of purists) for tinkering with it, even seriously modifying it.

I earlier thought I might acquire an extra 99 or two from a pile of milsurps a guy wanted to sell me. What I got was one "last ditch" rifle. I doubt one of those would be a suitable basis for your accurizing experiments.

I've read about the strength and durability of the receivers, I would be curious of what the rifle and cartridge really could do....

Well, you might consider the Type 38 for accuracy experimentation, too. 6.5 mm with a real fast twist rifling, I don't know exact rate, but probably somewhere around 1 turn in 8".

I've heard those were real fast rounds. More accurate than the 7.7.

Also, the 6.5 x 50 was the original assault rifle round, in the Fedorov avtomat.
