Mailman delivered the first piece of the puzzle today.
A Original Berretta folding stock. Its going to be a long expensive BM59 clone build but I'm getting burned out on Garands and need to change it up alittle :082:

I saw those Bill and gave it some thought but probably will piece it together myself. The barrel in the kit is a used modified Garand barrel and alot of the other parts I already have. I have a buddy that can set me up with the spring guide, trigger assembly and a real BM59 gas cylinder. I will probably have a new commercial barrel modified at Shuffs Parkerizing as I am having him build it
Thanks for the link though, I can use all the help I can get on this. Probably going to end up in the poor house before this is over

Thin coat of stain and several coats of BLO made the grain really pop

Very nice! I am envious of you... the 59 is one of my faves and I will be following your progress closely, taking notes!
My Papaw (grandfather for you non Southerners or non-natives) had the 10th edition of the Small Arms of the World (awesome resource that I still use and cherish) and in it were several pages dedicated to the 59 and some of its variants. Being a young lad at the time I had those pages well worn and marked... I just loved the lines of the 59.

Thanks for the info but I'm not buidling the 59E. It uses a Garand gas cylinder, I'm using a BM59 gas cylinder
Its going to be awhile before I can afford to have the receiver milled to accept mags

Orlando, you will end up with one heck of a nice, and super unusual, battle rifle. Please continue to post your progress on this build.
I presume 922(r) applies to this build?
Also curious about the receiver mods you mention--are there prints available for this, or do you just reverse-engineer from an existing one?

Yes ,922(r) applies
To do it right I am sending it to Shuffs Parkerizing to have receiver milled
Barrel will have to be shortened ,splines have to but milled in barrel to hold gas cylinder, port drilled, barrel turned down for BM59lower band and cut made for clip.
Not a backyard do it yourself project
Post man left this today. NOS BM59 BiPod
