I was out of town visiting my favorite Uncle, who has allways been an avid hunter. While admiring his collection of rifles, I mentinoed that I did not see his old Hawken 54.

He turned to me and said that he still had it, and how would I like to take it home with me?

I was flabergasted!

"Of course I would love to have it, but don't you need it?" I replied.

"I never use it any more, I got a modern 50 for the muzzle loader season." he said.

Long and short is that he gave me a classic Thompson Center Hawken .54 octogon barrel rifle that he has owned for at least 30 years that I know of, along with all the accessories;

patches,
molded and lubed bullets,
balls,
sabots,
miniballs,
cleaning supplies,
powder measures and shooting doo-dads,
bullet mold,
long distance precision peep sight,
breach wrench,
precussion caps,
even POWDER.

The rifle is in nearly immaculate condition with a shiny sharp bore that looks like brand new.
Pictures are definately coming, and I can't wait to feel the concussion of that .54 touching off.

I know that I will treasure this firearm more than all my others, even if I only fire it once.

I have one like that but stamped Navy Arms. I haven't shot capnball or muzzle loaders since 95. I got my no.11 percussion caps/nipples and oxwads and my .54 ball but I tried some triple seven powder and cannot get this thing to go boom. The caps snap but no igition. I will try and get some goex blackpowder and try again. This gun was built from a kit in the late 70's and has never been shot. Let me know what makes yours go boom. I am thinking blackpowder but let me know. If and when I make mine to go boom I will post. Beautiful guns though, just got to get acquainted with it again.
