Late last year I bought a used IAI carb and finally got around to shooting it a bit. Have a couple issues I would like to get some help sorting out. One issue is that I have several failures to fully go into battery. Another issue is failure to fully extract, followed by a jam when the next round tries to load up.
Can our board experts give me some ideas on what to look at to resolve these 2 issues.
TIA

jim, go back a re-read the other post you had on these rifles.

bottom line is IMHO they are junk rifle. very few people have not had problems with them.
mine had bolt problems. the extractor went first, then the bolt broke. look at your bolt. if you change out the bolt then you will need to have the headspace checked.

Ron,
unfortunately I bought the rifle then posted the question. I violated the rule of buying a gun without firing it first. My loss as I will not sell a gun that I know has problems, unlike some other unscrupulous people.
So now I am trying to fix it as I would like to keep it.
You are right so far. First issue was extractor broke. Replaced that.
Do you recommend that I change the entire bolt and have it reheadspaced? After you did this, did you have any further problems?
Thanks,
Jimbeaux

I would not kick myself for buying it without firing it first. Most of the guns I buy I have not fired because they were bought on-line, at gunshows, etc. Many times if see something interesting, or looks like a deal
I just go with it and make the buy, even if I don't know much about the gun. If you are honest about it having problems, I don't see any problems selling it. There are folks that like to tinker with these things or
want it for other reason, even if it needs work. As an owner of several M1 Carbines I recommend you get rid of it, even at a loss. I don't think you will ever be happy with it, or trust it. Buy yourself a
good USGI carbine to replace it and you would be much better off. Just my opinion--.

jim, i took the two i had bought back to the manufactor i got it from and got my money back. they were local.
when you posted your first post i didn't know you had already bought it.
the bolt seems to be the main problem and i have heard that if you go to the GI bolt it helps to solve the problem. just have the headspace checked.
it the problem you have (not going into battery?) the ammo is stove piping? if it is it is caused by the mag. people have this thing about inserting a mag then hitting the bottom of the mag to "seat it". if you do that it will bend the lips on the mag in and cause the casing to drag on the lips. it is usually on the third round that this happens. this is really bad with after market mags. i only use GI mags in mine.
