i was looking in the new issue of SGN and they had an article on a century galil clone they called a "golani" aside from the silly sounding name, anybody know anything about these? it looks like a fun little rifle, but i'm kind of worried that it might turn out to be the usual century monkey job.

Well the Golani name is there cause I don't think they had the legal right to call them Galil rifles. Golani is a IDF brigade I believe.

I don't own one, nor have I shot one, but the one I handled at the gun store seemed put together pretty well and was solid. Didn't appear to be a monkey job, but like I said, you probably have to shoot one to see.

May not be on par with the best but at least the rifles look better.
I was wanting to build one of these. It's a rifle I've wanted since I was a kid! It would fill two voids in that I'd have a .223 and an AK type rifle in one package. Add to that, in my day, the Galil in .308 was considered the finest assault rifle made. I'm calling my bro now to see what he can get one for. Maybe he will at least get one for the store and I can get a closer look. drine

Planning seems happy with his, and he has a couple real Galil's to compare it with..

I looked at it right after he got it, and it seems to be put together better than the average WASR. Do a search on Galil and there are a couple threads on them..

I'm still waiting for one I ordered in January. The last time I called Century there were supposedly five names ahead of mine on the list. The rep also said they were having problems getting some parts to complete the build. The Golani was written up very well by David Fortier in Shotgun News several issues ago. Centerfire was advertising both .233 and .308's but their cost was higher than the $850 I paid at my local gun shop for the one I've got coming.

Stopped by a shop yesterday in OKC and they had two of them on the shelf, but a couple of hundred over what I see priced here. It looked well built, just a little rich for my money. It was marked as a galil though, must be a early receiver.

I am wondering if the brigade is named after one of its early commanders? If you read the article, one of the listed three (first?)commanders was Naham Golan. These would be from the days that the IDF just formed from the rough eliments of the Haganah. Remember before the state was formed the units were really just para military/gorillia/terrorist cells, thus named after their leaders might be true too. Now ironically these groups are the leading parties of the nation.

Fleet&farm has one here. Its looks nice, no signs of monkey poo.
They wanted 999.99. Seemed a little high. IS that a good price?
