These are the things you want to check besides the normal firearm things:
-Bolt Gap- it should be between .004-.02. we have a sticky that shows how to check it. You need feeler gages.
-Ground Bolt- take the bolt off the carrier and look at the rear of it. Make sure it hasn't been ground. An unground bolt should have a nice clean chamfer around the edges.
-Rear sights on a stamped received are welded on square.
-Front sight/triple frame is not canted.
-The bolt carrier does not rest on the cocking tube stop. You should be able to move the cocking handle slightly before you notice the carrier moving. If you move the handle and the carrier moves immediately, it is resting on the stop and that is bad.
-Make sure the ejector is riding high in the bolt head.
-You could check magazine fit, but that can usually be adjusted.
This is a sticky I've been meaning to do.
Guys I need some pictures please...of a ground bolt and un ground bolt and ejector height in bolt head.
Post them here and I'll make a sticky.

Prices have gone up quite a bit so you will see them from about $500 to about $650. If you find a rifle you like, get a set of feeler gauges and measure the bolt gap and see if you can break down the rifle to check for a ground bolt. Might as well bring a calipher with you to do this with. This will help you make an intelligent decision as to what will have to be done to the rifle. I would also make a copy of Tankers post and take it with you so you can remember what to check.

For the ground bolt, look at the beveled/chamfered edge. A shiny bolt doesn't necessarily denote a ground bolt. I polished mine to a shine (because it's a moving part) so it could fool someone into thinking it's ground, but the bevel is still there.

Yeah, that's why I like that picture. It shows that the chamfer is gone.

Another pair of bolts. One on left is ground and not all are shiny. All of the ones I have run into were also rotary ground not straight ground. (curved vs. straight grind lines) This tells me they were not ground individually but in quantity, which is why they are all around 1.821" long.

As helpful as most of the respondents to your query are, the only correct answer is:
BUY EVERYTHING, and axe questions later.

This may have been posted as of 07'. As long as new people join the HK/Cetme family such as myself. This info should be readily available, as a safety trade-off. So someone doesn't purchase an unsafe weapon. NUF SAID!

Sounds like the guys have you pretty well covered but I'd like to suggest you also check the Dealers warranty as well. You can find a USED Cetme for a pretty good deal, I did. Mine was under $500 with 3 actual Cetme mags. Outward appearance was very impressive. Downside? Got it home WITHOUT checking the bolt gap first to find it was at .006" BEFORE I cleaned it. After cleaning it was down to .004" then after showing a friend a day or two later how to check bolt gap as he wanted to " Buy an awesoem looking rifle " like mine, the gap had dropped to .003". I hadn't fired a single round through it since purchase so back it went. To make an already long story short I showed them the gap and after talking to the owner for a few minutes they honored their 90 warranty on used guns. $0 fix for me! I just was very lucky they offered a warranty on USED guns. I'd GREATLY advise checking the gap on any you think of buying BEFORE you buy it. I got Feeler Gauges at O'reilly Autoparts for $5.49 after tax.:Smile_glasses:
