Hey guys,

Was poking around robertrtg's webstore today, and it seems they just got in some new carry handles. 25 + shipping, already ordered mine.

http://www.robertrtg.com/g3carryhandle.html

I know at least a few people were looking for them, cheapest ive seen them elsewhere in a while was 40$.

For those who havnt dealt with robertrtg before, I have several times as have many of the members of cetmerifle.com (rip), excellent service and communication.

Even cheaper $15, although robertRTG is great to deal with:

Yes, they are advertised as HK33, but they work perfect!

I haven't paid much thought to these....

Would this interfere with a scope?

Would this interfere with a scope? Depends on how long the scope is, and which direction you install the carry handle.

A pretty pointless accessory, IMHO. It's a rifle, not a briefcase :)

That said, I looked into the DSA handle but they want nearly $10 for shipping, so I'd definitely go with Robert's RTG for these.

What's involved in installing one of these? I have a stamped Century C91/G3 that I may be interested in putting one on.

Hardest part is deciding which way you want the handle to face.

which way are they supposed to face... as in, which way should you face them to balance the rifle. I dont ever plan on using mine, but I got one coming more for looks than anything.

It depends on you, the user. If you've got a damned cheese grater on the front end with half of the walmart electronics aisle on it, or if you've gotten a US made buttstock made out of solid steel, the handle can go whichever direction is most comfortable for you.

I have seen them install in either direction...

I don't think it makes that much of a difference.

I took it off for my rebarrel and the tabs broke. For those who want one remember these things:
It will scratch the hell out of your receiver.

You may need to relieve some area around your forearm.

I had a clamp on scope and although it didn't work on my stamped receiver, the carrying handle would not clear unless I removed the scope caps.

You get one chance. The tabs will break or at least fatigue if you remove the handle ever.

Having said all this, I liked it. It SHOULD only go on one way and that is at the point of balance. If it isn't balanced why use it? The handle should lay over the left side as you look down the sights.

Ill probably wrap mine in electrical tape to make it silent, and scratch-free.

It's not the handle itself that scratches the receiver, it is the clamp that holds it on which scratches things up.

Here's how I installed mine and any receiver scratches are covered by the carry handle once installed. 5 minutes at most. Anyway here's a pic:

You can solder it in place too so it won't move around and scratch the reciever.

Mine haven't moved yet. I think the scratches that are being referred to come during the install. The handle kind of "snaps" around the receiver and then tap it down about a 1/4". Like I said, no visible signs on mine once installed. Now if I removed them probably so...

I'm not interested in one on my CETME, but I did put one on my PTR91.

I imagine if they had thought that this was needed the rifle would have had one built in. I guess different armies train carrying their rifle with slings or by hand.

+1 , the install will dig right into the century powder coat.

The handle was an afterthought once it was realized how HOT these rifles got during rapid fire. they can get so hot that you will burn your hands on the cocking tubes, so they had to come up with a simple field-modification to allow the soldiers to carry the rifle easily during a firefight.

Ironically doesnt the "B" come with a built in handle?

yes, the CETME B did come with one, but it was dropped to simplify manufacturing.

Here is a pic showing how they clip on and the proper direction for the handle. I like these handles I have one on both of my PTRs. I would recommend using a lot of oil when you put one on and it doesn't hurt to dull the edges on the clip portion first. I still think both of mine got a little scratched however the handle covers it up.

God help anyone in the Australian army caught carrying an M16 with the handle - I remember hearing one RSM give a cadet a bollocking for treating his rifle as a handbag. Rifles had to be either slung or carried in a reday position.

The Aussie SASR took the handles off their SLRs so no-one would be tempted to use it (or to lighten their load, depending on who you listened to).

Mine wouldn't snap over the receiver. I actually started sliding it on from the barrel end. That's how I scratched it. Still it was covered up so no big deal. If I put another on when I'm done rebarreling, it will stay.

It's just not something you need to put on and take off much if any.

" and can also fit the CETME with slight fitting to the handgaurd."
-->Hmmm, scary. lookin at that I don't think that would play well with my modB handguard...the Mod B HG actually is inletted for the old 'built in' handle from the Mod B receiver.

Patria Povo--LMAO! I think every rifle should have a sling, an I've never heard the comments abt 'handbgs' ot 'briefcases' B4! Heehee!

I guess they were all made by the germans(pakistanis) and maybe others, not the spanish(I am guessing there were no removeable handles built by CETME or I have never read of any, as soon as I say this arniz will bring one out of his box of goodies) but the later users of variants felt they did. Thus the spanish didnt worry about handles after they dropped them from their model b rifles.

+on roberts post. The handle I got from DSA was a "Take Off' So it's a crap shoot on how much "used" it is. The one I got from Robert was new and after I wiped it down woth breakfree, looked the the rest of the rifle.

Since selling out of POF handles two years ago I have bought carry handles from all vendors mentioned on this post. It is a crap shoot...sometimes you get new and other times you get crap. These are the nicest handles I have seen for a long time and they are all in great condition! Thanks for the positive feedback guys. It's the best advertising that money can not buy.

I'm interested if it can open bottles too...or if it does a fancy dance, but it seems like a clanky dingle ball on an otherwise clean rifle.
If you can do full auto, NEED one or just like 'em, buy one from RTG...my Dad lives near Peoria, AZ and we give Robert thumbs UP!
