I just got my new Claw Mount and Stanag Scope in the mail today and it occurred to me. I have never mounted on of these and I am not sure which way it clamps on to my receiver. Does anyone know if it is supposed to go a certain way or not?

Thanks

If it is HK it has an arrow pointing forward and if you look on most of them you will see on one side flat lips at the attaching points and the left (opposite of the ejection port) will have slanted or slightly curved attaching points or contact surfaces. All has to do with the manufacturer though as all are not the same!

When you look through it with your cheek on the butt stock evrything
should look BIG. If it looks little you have it on backwards.
If you can't see anything take off the protective caps :=)

Seriously, Locking lever on left unlocking lever on right (ejection port) side.

LMAO tom.

seriously though. Unlocking lever on right, locking lever on left if looking from the rear like Tom said.

Are you mounting this on a cast receiver, and... is it an HK mount/hendsoldt scope, or a Chinese knockoff?

It was really unfair of me to poke fun at the Racoon man's expense.
I was fried at the end of a long work day and feeling silly. I apologize.
After all, I'm the dolt who went out and shot my newly purchased used CETME with .000 bolt gap before researching about bolt gap at "The Site".

It a knock off mount from CTD and a T28 scope.

I think I have it mounted ok, and of all people I love a joke and did laugh at your post. Thanks

Raccoon, you are mounting this on what type of receiver?

Century Arms stamped that was made in 2002.

Be prepared for the mount to shift during firing.

These mounts were originally designed for the G3 rifles and rely on a "saddle" on the top of the cocking tube just in fromt of the rear sight to keep in from moving fore-aft. The CAST CETME receivers have this saddle molded into the receiver like the G3, but the STAMPED ones have the stock CETME rear sight base welded onto the receiver, and that base does NOT have the saddle.

Well that sucks. Any solutions been found to remedy it?

There are several, everything from welding a little dab of metal onto the receiver to keep the mount stationary, to using safety wire to hook the mount onto the rear sight.

Ok, Gives me some ideas. Will have to shoot it a while and see where it moves and how much then.

Thanks

I never have tried it, but I though about just putting some JB weld up on top, at the front and back of the rear of the mount where the saddle would be, to make a custom saddle... I wonder if theres a release agent that you could put on the scope mount so that you could put the 2 dabs of JB up there, and lock the scope onto the receiver, then remove the scope once it dries, and clean up the edges and paint the JB... then you have a saddle on a stamped receiver thats a custom fit for your scope mount, and you didnt have to weld. that should be enough to keep it from walking forward and backwards.

Within 4 or 5 rounds its coming to move a ton. Another problem with the Century stamped receiver is getting it to sit square. When I tried a claw mont on mine, it was canted, then of course moved all over the place. I sold mine and will stick with iron sights.

Wax, or even spray on silicone shold keep the JBWeld from adhering to the mount, but better would be just to have a small piece of steel welded into the correct location.

I had one of the copies too. It fit very well but could be moved with a good knock. I tried the set screw used by one of the members for the low pro mount. Everything went really well until I realized the pad I was pushing against was spring loaded. Had it been soild it would at least make the mount tighter. Still it squeezes the side of the receiver to an extent. I think it could be made to work though. Nothing can't NOT be done, if that makes sense. It's just to the ends justify the means. I sold mine on the 'bay.

i cut some very small peices of rubber albout the same thickness of a rubber band and superglued them to the mount where it touches the gun . Have put about 50 rounds thru it and held so far but surely not a permanet or great fix.

one of you guys with a machine shop should make a saddle that could be welded up top on the stamped receiver to remedy the scope mount issues. Id love to have a stamped receiver if I could mount a scope easily when I wanted...

If I were one though I'd probably be in trouble. I'd like to be a distiller too. Why are all the fun things dangerous and/or illegal?
