Does anyone have a pic of the recommended placement of where to drill the holes in the receiver for welding the trunnion and cocking tube. Sorry about all the questions, but I didn't think to save the stuff from the other forum, but I have been now on this one;)

I do 5 on mine. One centered at the bottom, one on each side close to the top of the receiver, and then one on each side between the top and bottom. Be sure and weld the back of the trunion as well where it comes in contact with the frame rails.

I weld them at 2:00 4:30 7:30 10:00 and the plug weld for the cocking tube, just on the top. Then all the way down each side of the seam. Be sure to back up the cocking tube weld with some alum. or brass or the weld will interfere with the bolt carrier.

My cocking tube apears to be welded almost 270 degrees where it meets the receiver. This is on the kit that I have to strip. If I got it correct I can get by with one plug weld on the top for this? Is that correct?

Dave, I find it best to weld the cocking tube all around the seam where it mates with the receiver. Gives a little more support, but this is just me.

Here is what I did:

I second that. Thanks for the replies and the picture. Now, one more newby statement/question: I had planned to TIG this operation. Is that a fair assessment? Also, for those with SS receivers I assume you use SS filler and save the mild steel for the stamped receivers.

I got the rear of the receiver fitted to the butt stock today along with sanding off the spotwelds on the trunion. It was nice to get some progress:woohoo-1:
