Hey has anyone here built a Ak rifle using there receiver. I purchased one last week and will be picking it up tonight from my FFL Dealer. I just want to see if anyone has any problems with theres and if it fits well. I know each rifle is different but as far as the receiver goes is it ok? Thank you in advance!

I have used them on several builds. They all have thousands of rounds through them with no problems. Not my first choice any more but, it should serve you well.

I've built 3 AK's using OOW's MK99 -a polish under folder, hungarian SA-85 and a romy G. After completion and a little tweaking all run very good with no issues. They are good heat treated receivers and are well made. I’m about an hour away from OOW so I go over and pick them up in person (no transfer costs that way).
The only thing using these receivers is to keep in mind are these are universal stamped AK receivers. Hence there is a little filing and fitting to custom fit them to some kits being the AK kit types can have variances. It’s no big deal to me, but it’s good to know.
Here is what I have noticed using these:
Issue #1 - No trunion holes (as you know). To me this is a good thing since some kits can vary. I make a template of my trunion holes with masking tape (rub with pencil) then peel it up and slide the receiver over the trunion then carefully press the tape back down (works for me).
Issue #2 - These receivers are made with the lips that fit into the front trunion’s slots a little long. I think they did this on purpose. It’s an easy fix to file them a little if needed for a custom tight fit, but keep this in mind when you test fit it.
Issue #3 – Mag fitting. I do not rivet the mag catch on at first…I use small screws and nuts instead. I noticed I have to grind a lot off the trigger guard/mag spacer, otherwise the mags will either not lock up or sit too low in the rear. I like to grind enough off the spacer till the mag’s feed lips (testing several) are about parallel with the lower rails, otherwise FTF’s can occur. I think this issue may be due to these receivers being thicker steel than most, thus making the spacer too thick if you know what I’m saying.
Issue #4 – Not a big deal, but the safety lever’s indent on all my AK’s has been slightly off of fitting into the mag spacer’s tab. A few strokes of a round file on the lever (barely noticeable) cures this.
Issue #5 – The axis pin holes are just a tad too small. I like this because this insures a good tight fit on the pins. A few strokes of a small round file is all it takes.
Issue #6- Last but not least…G2 hammer fitting (if that’s what you are using). I’ve only used Tapco G2 FCG’s in these so I’m not sure if it’s a receiver or hammer issue. I’ve heard a lot of complaints about G2 hammers being too thick in many different receivers other than OOW’s also so I believe the G2 is at fault on this one. Anyhow, on mine I’ve had to grind a radius on the top of my hammer’s because they sit too high in the receiver causing the carrier to bind. Easy to do with a grinder, but a PITA to take a little off, put it back in, cycle it and so on till it’s right.
Other than that, once it is all fitted mine have all run great. They have all been very reliable. I’ve got one more romy G kit and one more OOW receiver saved for a future build.

Good to know. I just got two OOW AK-74 recievers my self. Been to buisy to start. I'm glad I saw this thread first. It'll be good to get the bugs worked out first than wait till its built, and then try to find out whats wrong with it later. Know what I mean Vern.

well i just got home and with my Receiver. It looks well made and i test fitted by safety selector and understand what you mean bout the hole i need to file to make it fit. Other than that it looks nice and im happy with the purchase hase some nice engraving on it. The dealer i used said to bring it back after i have it all together. Now just need the by the tapco G2 kit.

I like tho OOW's, I have done almost all my ak builds on them with no problems. they have nice clean crisp bends and look good when built. I haven't had any problems with the g2 fcg's fitting properly.
not having trunnion holes ensures having the holes in the right spot after fitting the trunnnions.
