My collection is short a Russian....and those are the most desirable ones to me. I've been looking for an unrefurbished with dark red arctic birch stock with plenty of character in the grain. Maybe I'll see one at the gun show this weekend.

I have a Norinco and a Yugo on the way. I have always liked the Yugos and I found a new unissued at a pretty good price so, It's on its way to my house as we speak.

i have a norinco, but i really would like to add a Ruskie and a yugo to my collection. i voted ruskie though because its the original and I generally like the darker wood that many of the russian SKS's have. the yugo comes in at a close second though

I voted Russian, cause those are the original...but I haven't really met an SKS I didn't like...

Because of the gas tube shut off valve, and the flip-up tritium night sights. ..and the flip out blade style bato. What can I say? Mine was a really minty Zastava refurb. I like the milled receiver parts, and the overall ovrbuilt sturdiness of the thing...really true to the Russian design principles...oh, and they're not too pricey, even still.
Ever not how the Yugo AK also has a gas tube shut off, but built into the flip-up grenade sight? Those yugos sure like to stop the gas!
I've always wanted an SKS -D or -M series, but never ponied up the $$$..400+ is kinda steep for an SKS...

Definately my yugo!

The extra heft of the 59/66 sucks up all the recoil, so it's just fun to shoot and great for teaching new people how to shoot. .22's are great, but the SKS has just enough kick and bang to ease people into shooting bigger stuff.

Yugos are my favorite. Probably because my first was a Yugo. Chinese are quite nice, and my Romy feels nice but it still needs work before it is shot (waaaay too loose top cover).

I voted Yugo as well since it was my first SKS. I went out and bought 10 Yugo 59/66s when they were first being sold almost everywhere. I think I'm down to only 6 or 7 since I sold a couple and gave a couple away.

I bought a Norinco with a threaded barrel when it was new. Of the three I have, it is stock and shoots the best. It actually shoots better than a lot of expensive rifles I have seen. The other two are pinned barrel Norincos picked up at a divorce sale. One was the "Cowboy" model or what ever they called it, short barrel. The other was kinda' messed up and now has a new shorter barrel and is ready to take AK mags.

Oh, I don't doubt it, that why the Yugo impressed me enough to go out a purchase a bunch of them. They are highly accurate and shooting them is much less expensive than a lot of my other rifles.

Ironically the yugo is like the chinese twenty years earlier, rugged and inexpensive. Too bad the ammo aint as cheap as it was five to ten years ago, but both the rifles and ammo are heading up.

Well it depends. I like the early Russian design the best, and it's the original. I like the Albanian for it's uniqueness and rarity. My favorite shooter is my SKS-M. I didn't vote, because of these reasons.

well... Im having trouble with this one. I had a Russian that shot AMAZING, but also love the look of the Albanian, and the heft of the Yugo.
And then I want a carbine model, and also a D......... Ill go with Russian though because mine functioned perfectly, looked great and shot 1.5MOA with commie steel-cased.

"I don't know why I like it...but I do.
I have a nice one with all the bells and whistles. The SKS doesn't have pretty lines but the grenade launching rings and sight make it tolerable.

I said yugo, but the first milsup I ever baught is my romainian. My romanian looks pretty beat up but it shoots pretty much where I want it too. I got in on sale from sog for $89.99, after shipping it was $101.70 somthing. I'll post a picture of it.

my Chinese norinco! The Russian is the original, more collectable, but my norico fit and finish is so nice! and it shoots sweet, one of my favorite guns. The most noticable difference is in the trigger I think.

not a real good pole then if it's both, it needs to be one or the other. some people have more than one kind.

It is just an informal poll.
I have found in these polls that folks tend to vote for the ones they have. It's just human nature.

So far I only have two SKSs a Yugo that I bought from Aim NIB and a Norinco SKS-M that I bought NIB from Planning. I voted for the Yugo because the SKS-M was not a choice in the poll. However I think the SKS-M is by far the coolest SKS that I have ever shot. I have seen some Russian SKSs that members on here have that are really cool for collecting but for shooting there is nothing quite like being able to lock a high capacity AK mag into the mag well and let the lead fly. Also I love the thumb-hole (Planet of The Apes) stock. It has a longer length of pull and a nice comfy thick rubber butt pad.

I agree with the statement, its the one that folks have. Years ago the only sks's here enmass were the chinese(my first one was a chinese milita type rifle, or thats what I was told it was), with some russians, and I remember seeing lots of vietnam bring bringbacks(boy where the owners of those pissed in some ways when the market flooded with chinese, they were the only sks game in town until the chinese imports and got insulted by folks thinking they were new chinese imports). Then Soviets came in, romanians, albanians, and now yugoslavians. The waves of them seemed to be low cost when they first hit the shores. My sks d's are the neatest things, fun to shoot. The Soviet/Russian is actually a nice rifle as some of the early chinese. The yugo is just kinda of a clunky bulky rifle with the launcher on it.(but it and my last chinese were the cheapest sks's I ever bought being some of the latest)
I guess I might have to look for a romanian and an albanian(at least two of the more common rifles out there still) to further the collection, and even try to find a blade bayonet variant chinese rifle.(didnt want to pay what they wanted for the last one I saw here in town, but in some ways am kicking my self for not getting it)

I finally bought one, when I Bubba'ed my Norinco. Decided that I wanted to have one that I could actually keep with bayonet. In the bubbafication process on the Chinese, I actually put on enough compliance parts that I CAN have a bayonet. However, I've left on the beer-opener that I installed during the Klintoon era.

if there is no date it is a 1955 manufacture rifle and the z is the stamp for armory refurbished rifle. the 1955 are the more rare dates for the russians, 1949 rarest, 1955 next, then 1950

Albainian looks the coolest in my eyes. I like the Russian WW 2 type handguards, light colored stock wood. Plus a few other details such as the charging handle, magazine shape and bayonet type. I have one made in 1977 of all years.
