Has that broomhandle been refinished? Thats a nice looking collection. I've been eyeing up a luger recently but keep trying to save my money.

Yes, it is refinished and the barrel was relined because of a shot out bore. It is 7.63 Mauser caliber.

I purchased the case over the phone from Pacific Canvas and Leather from an ad in Shotgun News. The Item # was PCL-133-C96 and the price was $74.90 in Nov of 2005. There phone number 760-868-3856.

Signal the 96 Mauser is the cat's a*#. It is what we all want after a Luger.. The other holy Grail of the gun collector. Man I am jealous and that case is cool. I bet when you take it to range you get some comments with that.

Thanks, I do get some interesting comments...Like is that "Hans Solo's gun?", or "what the he** is that?" The most common remark is "can I shoot it?" I usually let them shoot a few (very expensive) rounds. The best 7.63 Mauser that I found for decent price was FNM from Portugal but it's no longer available (I have five boxes squirreled away). Fiocchi makes some but it's almost thirty bucks for a box of 50. Prvi Partizan is available at Aim Surplus for $15.95 a box.

That's a wonderful collection Schultz. What's the story on the dueling pistols?

cimmaronkid
03-06-2007, 07:51 PM
Yes, please give us the story on the brace of duellers as I know that there has to be a story with those. Who was the maker, etc. We're waiting. And there also has to be a story with the little palm pistol as well. Both those are just in too good of shape not to have histories.

Haven't found much on them. They were my dads, He picked them up at an auction. The markings that are present are German "Rache in Breslan", So far Rache means Revenge but haven't found what Breslan means.

I have a small set too! 1836 English Pocket pistols.

The Squeezer! My Dad bought it when he was a kid, Said he only shot it once and that was enough. It's in 32CF, A 7 shot with a 1.75 inch barrel.

Even in the civilized world of 1836, no self respecting gentlemen would go out with out his concealed pocket pistols. Those are very nice. Your dad's got excellent taste in firearms. The "squeezer" looks like something a professional gambler would carry in the old west. A very "up close and personal" type of pistol. I love it!

Schultz you have a very nice collection. The Luger is gorgeous, man we all dream of getting on of those someday(along with the M 96) What about the Colt SA where did you get it? I like it also. I would coment on the dueling pistols but I know nothing about them other than they look cool in those cases. Last how old is the palm pistol? From the early 1900s or l1890s?

The Colts were also my Dads, Had them when he was a teenager. I have his holster rig too. The Palm Pistol is 1893.

When my Dad passed away last year i was passed his collection. He and i both love collecting, His was mostly older(pre ww1) and mine is WW1 and up with a few Civil war pieces as well. I'm still learning all i can about his pieces.

Colt has records on all of their firearms and can give you the date of manufacture and who and where they were sent to. Unfortunately, they charge for this service (it used to be free) but is well worth it to have a solid history on the firearm on Colt letterhead. Also, if you are looking for a case to put those in, Colt can again help with a wooden case to fit the brace. They are extremely nice and your father had excellent taste in firearms. I am sorry to hear of his passing.

Thanks! I always admired his collection!

I never thought of that (Brain Fart), So it's similar to the Winchester authentication i take it? I have a Yellow Boy a Model 94 and a 1895 i'm doing that for.

my 230 is a .380 and I think it's got plenty of power. I was pleasantly surprised when I used it during a bowling pin match....the rounds actually were able to knock down them heavy pins off of the racks.

Here is one of my few antiques. It is a .44cal LeFaucheaux. I have no provenance on this but my guess is that it was probably a personal purchase by a confederate soldier. It is a pin fire cartridge design so ammo supply must have been problematic. It appears to be missing the ejector rod. The rear sight is notch in the top of the hammer that is aligned only when the hammer is at full cock.

My set up of .44's, my 625 in .45 acp the first time I took it out and my .45 1911 I've been working on for a while now. The slides need to still be parked hopefully that will be done here soon. Not shown is my 999 H&R .22 that I got for $100 last winter.

The 629 6" 44 I've worn out in 4 years of ownership. I got it when I was 16 on my first paycheck and my dad knew I was looking for one so he called me up at work asking if I wanted a S&W 44 mag for $300 a guy had listed in the paper as "like new"...needless to say I jumped on it. And it was like new...and I have managed to shoot it loose and wear it out in 4 years flat. So it needs to go in for work one of these days. The 8 3/8's is Absolutely MINT I got that from a friend who needed the money more than the gun I also bought the 10 1/2" from him that same day for a song. The 4" I got last spring from a guy who had it when he lived in bear territory.

Between my dads collection and mine i have a bunch.

You don't see too many Butterfields but i've seen a few Savage pieces latley. The Blakemore pieces were in a case at one time but i dont know what happened too it.

It's the corkscrew in the middle. Personaly i think it woud hurt to fire it more than once.

I like pistols, just not as much as rifles. So the collection is a bit small. But when I do buy pistols, I like to spend the money to get it right. I plan to add a Colt or Ruger SAA soon. I will probably buy a ruger and a Colt later. I need a gun that I do not mind using hard so I think I will get the ruger first.

I do not like plastic frame guns... just something about them...

From the top:

Conderate navy Brass frame 1858 Colt repro (Italian) 44 Cal. (gift from my uncle)
Ruger Mark II
Beretta M9 (not a 92FS)
Colt Gunsite 1911
Walther PPKs 380 auto

http://filebox.vt.edu/users/phiteshe/Pistol%20Collection.JPG

My short list of pistols to buy:
Ruger or Colt SAA (maybe both) guide length barrel, nickel/stainless, Ivory or black grips
Colt Repro 1911 (WWI)
Colt Repro 1911a1 (WWII)
Luger (nice but shooting quality)
P38 (maybe)
Beretta 92 Vertec with rail for home protection

Yeah thats about it.
