How do you convert a Saiga .306 to use a FAL magazine?
How do you convert a Saiga 7.62x39mm to use an AK47 magazine?
Thank you in advance.

is this a 308 that your talking about they have 20 rnd. mags that they sell that will work perfect in it .but you have to replace parts with us parts to use them .same with 7.62 x39 has tobe 922r compliant to use hicap mags.

To convert a saiga to use ak mags, you need to do compliance to get the number of parts under ten imported. Then you add a bullet guide(the saiga has a raised nose on the mag vs a bullet guide infront of the chamber), and fit the mag release to take the thicker tabs on a ak mag. Thus its not that hard, you do not have to do a pistol grip, but just get the imported parts down, if you use us made mags you can change out fcg parts(less the trigger, if you change out trigger you need to move the trigger).

For conversion to fal or hk mags for a .308 gun, you cannot do it without heavy mods to the trunions, or mag or both, as neither mag has a tab to engage the mag release, and a differnet nose. Root around the saiga board for folks that have done franken mags and other things. I would just get a FBMG mag.

Here is a supplier makeing HK mags that will fit a unmodified saiga, not vouching for quality or anything else, but here it is.

I would suggest using M14 mags for the Saiga .308. They require less work and function great.

No mods necessary to the Saiga (but you will need to comply with the 922r).

Walt, the folks at Tromix looked into it, you have to use a usgi type mag(not a copy, they varied too much) to be consistant. They tried makeing them with affordable m-1a mags but found they varied too much to make one fit every rifle I believe. They thru in the towel on making their own mags, thus the FBMG mags might be the best choice, unless you only want to make one-offs, It seems low cost m1a/m-14 mags dont exist wiith much quality. For the forty five bucks, it would be hard to make your own and have your time worth anything. The twenty four round, saiga/hk franken mags might be easier and quicker to make(you dont need anythng but tin snips and some sort of plier).

To do any mag conversion, basically all you need to do is mate the back tab off a ak mag and rework the front, there were some conversions in the day to make rifles that fit m1a/m-14 mags with no mods to the mags.
