TEXLURCH - you rock - great data, and superbly written. The flawed concept behind bolt grinding makes perfect sense to me now...

So, please check me if I'm wrong, but following your logic, on a ground bolt gun (which I now know I have - no bevel and REALLY bright finish compared to rest of the surfaces - aarrgggg) the only way to TRULY measure the "timing" is to account for the missing material and subtract that from the current gap dimension...

So, that in turn makes me wonder why they would grind it in the first place if the number was acceptable - ah ha! - that probably means my "true" gap is out of spec, right??? Ah #$%@

Well, I'm going to borrow a set of good calipers from work and dig deeper into my rifle before I put anymore rounds through it - If I knew then what I know now - oh well...

Thanks again for the great info - this forum is the best!!!

Sean

Until you measure the bolt head length and then check the gap, it is still up in the air.

Allwater... even if you find your bolt is ground, its not a complete bust just yet.

century chose to grind the bolts over replacing them with new parts. They just faked a gap on old parts.

If youve got a ground bolt, get a new bolt, LP, and rollers (all sizes or at least standard and +4's) and see where that puts you.

Here are some options for installing the paddle.

There is a copy of the BATF letter in the first link (thanks Perro)

I saved the step by step from a G3 build on the Falfiles; here is a link to a cleaned up copy I made..

http://webzoom.freewebs.com/heads_up_racing/Fake%20pin%20and%20paddle%20release%20G3.doc

Basically, you cannot drill a hole larger than 1/8 inch, and it cannot go thru both sides of the trunnion, and has to be welded shut after the pin is installed.

An old mig welder brass tip fits inside the paddle perfectly, just have to ream out to fit the 1/8th inch pin.

One last note; do all your trigger frame and pack fitting to the receiver FIRST, before you drill the hole. Make sure you have everything sitting high enough in the receiver for the ejector to work. The paddle install should be one of the last things you do, maybe even best if you do it after test firing. Plus, if you drill the hole off, the paddle won't actuate the mag release correctly and you are stuck with it.

Does anyone have a clue where else to look for this information on mounting a scope mount to a cast receiver? The link don't exist any more...
