I cant remember the SN of the guy who was building his own receiver for a CETME, that looked kinda like the BAR....

I wanted to check in on the progress of that rifle and see how it was coming along...

That thing looked like it was gonna be SWEET

Also, what about the other guy who was just making his own receiver that was 2 pipes welded together?

Before Cetmerifles went down, I searched and searched, but he seemed to never come back and update it.

Hopefully, he'll find his way over here. It looked like he had a pretty good start on the project.

yeah that thing was getting close to inspiring me to do the same thing one day... but I wanted to see someone actually succeed at doing it before i jumped in head first

i really want to show you guys my toy that i built but it is not done yet.

i put my other gun on hold too, been playing with m53's lately.

turbo... you were making the 2 pipes receiver right?

or was ours the BAR style?

What did you guys use for the bolt rails, and did you weld them in? :btw :worthy:

westcoast
03-11-2007, 07:36 PM
3/8" 4130 square stock here.large tube is 1 5/8" .059" wall,small tube is
.058 wall seamless tubing.mag well is .058 also.all metal i have used is 4130

whoops! yes the rail are to be plug welded in.also they are formed to fit the bolt carrier and it's tapered groove.the rails are a flush fit to the trunion no bump as the rollers enter the trunion.seems to make things smooth.

It takes time and resolve to complete an undertaking like this!

by the way i'm not that guy. just another builder in the back row.turbo if you ran up on any fit problems please pm me.about to start forming fire control area some input would be good! ?'s how tall is the lower rear square area?at this point i'm just going off what it needs to work.some call it blind luck.some damn stupid.:icon_eek:

i feel kinda bad here. mine is a hack job compared to his. i will try harder next time. i plan on getting another kit and really getting into it.

this stuff takes a huge learning curve to get it right the first time. my hat is of to you.

My hat is off to both of you, there is more patients there than I can
muster. And as far as being a hack job, if it works for you, then it is
good as gold. I once built an adjustable rifle rest and when I went to
get some silicone tubing to put on the support arms, a local welder
was in there and asked to see it. I told him not to look at the welds,
he then banged on one of the arms and it rang like a bell, he then
told me "looks like hell, works real swell and thats all that matters".
Go guys go, don't stop now.

since this is "off the cuff" some basic measurment's off of different recievers would be good. anyone willing to help here? lots of pics but no real measurments seem to out there.

it's comming along.bolt gap set at .020,bolt carrier smooth no hang-ups.since i'm not a purist removed flash hider and added a recessed target crown.also shortened the end of the cocking tube after the factory stop, moved the front site back.will be making front wood after i'm sure how all fits.1993

Blasphemer!
You probably didn't even have the common decency to grind the piss out of the factory components to fit "your" receiver.
Hell, I bet you don't even HAVE a bolt-grinder. I'm guessing that you might have even stooped so low as to use some sort of "instrument" to align the FSB. I'll cut you some slack on that last one, as renting a cock-eyed monkey to do it is probably cost-prohbitive outside of Georgia, VT.
Other than that.....

NICE WORK! Kudos!

WestCoast, i noticed that the cocking hand was switched to the right side. not trying to criticize or anything, just purely curious, why did you decide to do that? are you a lefty, or is it just more comfortable for you that way?

westcoast
05-13-2007, 11:41 PM
yep lefty here, also intend to put the sling loop from the right and reverse the cut out on the buttstock backwards.the pistol grip is coming along also left friendly.no cutting on the factory parts except the tube and barrel crown.i have shaped a port buffer need to weld that on.one small step at a time.investment so far about 40.00 into the reciver.time priceless.

05-14-2007, 07:37 AM
I'm actually kinda suprised nobody else has tried to do that with the cocking handle before. very interesting though.
the build is looking very good, by the way

05-14-2007, 08:14 AM
first off Thanks guys for the site!!!! it would not have got this far along without it and thanks for the comments they help keep it going.the front of the hand guard will be attached to the tube and not touch the barrel.i used a reduced tube size on the end of the cocking tube so it does float inside the front site hole /semi freefloat is what im after, like the newer hk.

I am really impressed with your ingenuity, you really need to make up some plans or something on how you did it. I'd be willing to pay for something like that, building my own is something that really appeals to my latent fabricator tendencies!

being that your building your own receiver and all, it would be neat if you decide to do another one, if you would try to make a sturmgewehr 44 looking rifle

What he said, I just posted down in the "Other" section about how much I'd like to own a STG44. Using a CETME kit to make an STG44 look-a-like would be a great project!
