I posted the following at another forum and thought I'd share this with y'all:

Someone needs their ears boxed

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Local television is reporting that an Arizona team, Chandler, defeated a Minnesota team to advance to the Little League World Series.

They showed a disappointing and bothersome video clearly showing a few Minnestoa players laughing and whispering to each other while they spit in their hands immediately prior to the teams giving each other the congratulatory hand shake or high five.

I wish I could find the video clip to post here and they said ESPN first aired the clip I watched on local television.

It concerns me that we have young people that have been guided, by parents, teachers, coaches, peers, or the current world of professional sports into thinking spitting in their hands to slap on an opponent is acceptable.

If one of them were my kid he'd have hell to pay by the time I got to him...yepper....fer sure!

I coached kids from T-ball through 12 year olds. I would have had some ones a$$ for even thinking about it. I have a pic of my 6'06" body looming over the 5 year olds giving them explicit instructions on how the end of game had shake would be performed. It is quite comical in retrospect.

Navajo, your right...that is bad sportsmanship...what are we teaching our kids? Why wasn't the cameraman letting someone know? Was he close? Very disrespectful.

The problem starts with the bad behavior exhibited by professional players. they are poor role models for kids.

I remember when I used to play little league, our coaches and parents always made sure we behaved like good sportsman, otherwise we would be punished with lots of running at the next practice. but now days (as if it's been that long), I see coaches and parents cursing and throwing tantrums at the umpires and at each other in front of their children, over questionable calls in a 8-year old's baseball game! It's ridiculous and disgusting that people can set examples like that for their kids, especially over something so trivial

Pirate, this is the exact reason I no longer watch the NBA, NFL nor MLB. Its gotten so bad in the last 2 or 3 years, I've given up on college football and basketball. The behavior, the lifestyles, the criminal element has corrupted what were once my rolemodels as a child. Just look at Mike Vic.

I'll stick with Nascar now thank you.

If the Minnesota team is banned from competition next year for unsportsmanlike conduct this kind of BS would not occur again. But the league will make excuses and allow it to continue, teaching kids to be jerks.
