How many of you like to mess with big bore revolvers or autos?
I know they don't have much value for serious purposes like SHTF
or defense but sometimes its nice just to have fun guns for power
plinking.

I've got a few Smith M29/629s, a couple of Ruger Super Blackhawks
(all in 44 mag) Also a LAR Grizzly in 45 WinMag and a Freedom Arms
in 454 Casull. I don't hunt with them and in fact they really don't serve much of any purpose other than relaxation. Sometimes its nice to just go out and set off something powerfull.

I guess it depends upon your definition of "SHTF" -- Around here, the most likely SHTF scenario is being charged by a bear, in which case a big-bore handgun most assuredly has much value! My current summer carry handgun is a S&W 629, but I'm thinking of moving up to a 500 magnum. There's no such thing as too much gun when you can smell a grizzly's breath!

My first and favorite is a Super Redhawk 44mag 9.5in barrel with 2x Leopold scope. Next favorite is the Super Redhawk 7.5in barrel 454. I also have a Ruger 454 Alaskan, and a TC Encore in 270. At some point I would like to get an Encore barrel in 375JDJ.

I have a Desert Eagle .44 mag that is really fun to take to the indoor range. Talk about a show stopper. I just love that big bore concussion

Well I guess thats true. We don't have the big bears here but the black bears here in the Northern Colorado mountains are getting to be a huge nusiance. My wife's uncle has a cabin up here which seems to be a hotbed for bear activity. We spend some time up there and do a lot of hikes into the adjoining forest service land and I always take along one of my Smith M629s along. I haven't had to use it yet but its a comforting weight on my hip. So I guess they really do serve some purpose for me at certain times.

I have a 8 3/8 629 44 mag with a 2x Luepold that is a great shooter. It has no problem hitting skeet laid out on the back stops at the range off hand at 50 yards and can print some pretty respectable groups on paper too. I have hauled it hunting on 3 trips but have yet to pull the trigger on anything yet. Maybe soon though, it's going to NC with my boys and I in Dec and just after the new year I'll be doing some heavy brush hunting with it in Ga.

I have the 629, and keep it stashed for "just in case". Shot a hog with it last year.

I like the Model 29, and almost bought one a few weeks ago...Make my day..

Also like the big 454s, 500s, etc. Been thinking about getting into these myself...

Also, if you load it with a decent .44 special hollowpoint like a Silvertip or a Golden Sabre, it is an outstanding anti-criminal handgun.
