How many of you hunt with mil surps. Not sporters but those in original configuration. This year was my first kill with a non sportered mil surp. I shot a doe with one of my K31's. It does have one of the clamp on scope mounts and 3-9 scope though. It was a quick hunt. I saw the does up on the hill on my way home from work. I got home grabbed the rifle and told the wife I would be right back i was going to go kill a deer. It was the last friday of season and I had not been out since I killed my buck the first morning. I parked at the bottom of the hill and the deer saw me. not a big deal as my in laws house is at the bottom of the hill. However all the doe but one made there way out of the field. the last one stayed and sort of watched me. I put a small patch of trees between myself and her and double timed it about 125 yards to the clump of trees. From there I crawled about 20 yards till I got over a small knoll and took a 100 yard shot from prone. She ran about 50 yards to the woodline and piled up. The wife could not believe I was done so fast.

Next year I am planning to use my Swiss 96/11 at 300 yards with open sights if I can get to where I feel confident with it at that range. The first sight setting is 300 and I watch a power line crossing at that range with my modern rifle so i figure lets give it a try. The club I belong to has a 300 yard range so i can get lots of practice.

i hunted with my sks when i had one, last year i hunted with my enfield, i was going to use my cetme, but i couldn't find a 5 rd mag, and didn't want to single load it. personally i really liked using the enfield, when i dropped that deer in his steps from some distance it was nice hah

I hunted deer with my 100% stock milsurp 1903A3 just for a change of pace.
I shot one deer with it. I don't have a photo of me holding the gun over the deer as I do most of the time as this would have been 1985. I did not think anybody would give a rat's As* what I shot the deer with then. Now I wish I had got my Dad to take a snapshot of me and the Rifle.
Now I have used the Krag sporter(Forearm hacked off) and a M 96 Swede sporter as my main rifle.

I plan on using my FR-8 in it's original form next deer season just to make things more interesting.

I normally hunt with a scoped Remington 788 .243 which has served me well. I don't believe the iron sights on the FR-8 will be much of a hinderance as the area I hunt in is heavily wooded.

I've killed deer with my CETME, K11, Enfield N04Mk1, and an unammed milsurp pistol since it really isn't enough to take a deer with........unless you head shoot it from a stand 20 feet away;)

I killed a deer with my Cetme this year... and many hogs with it as well.

Killed a few hogs with a M38 (homedone trigger job)

Killed a couple more with a K31 (totally sporterized)

and the guy I hunt with has killed countless animals and only hunted with commercial rifles for the last couple years.

The K31 will be my go-to deer rifle once I get the action bedded. And Ill probably take it to hunt Elk with next winter if I get to go. Im a firm believer in the 7.5 swiss round. Though the Cetme would be a fun one to take a 800 yard kill-shot on an Elk though.

I plan on taking my AR in 6.8 out next year. I'm not much of a hunter as just a target guy but, I need to at least get one dear in my life.

i never hunt, but believe a preditor should not shoot a preditor. just me though.

i would like to go deer hunting with my in-law but i dont think it would do anything for me. maybe if the deer exploded after i shot it and a hundred more came running by.....

turbothis,

i dont trophy hunt either.

if you shoot it or catch it, you honor it by eating it,
and you will take that animals soul with you into the "next" world.

yet, if you shoot something thats getting into your turkey cage
or chicken coop, even a loose collared dog that chases/bites your kid
every time he/she goes to get on the bus for school,
thats another story..........

either way, cook it up and feed the hounds, at the very least.

anything else is just murder.

this is just MHO. no offence intended to anyone. :rantmeter:

I've hunted Deer with my Enfield, Ishapur, SKS, M44, K31, Cetme and a 12 gauge with slugs. Dead is dead and food is food. Just my experience, but if you hunt with a muzzle break on your rifle, make sure the rifle is completely outside your enclosed stand when you shoot. It's a tad loud if you don't. My ears rang all day!

no longer have the pics but have shot numerous hogs with the CETME as well as some coyotes that were trying to eat my dog...

my Enfield has taken 2 whitetails and one Nilgai.
and my Mauser (98K) has taken 2 whitetails and missed a hog.

oh and all 3 rifles are total hell on wheels against those evil paper targets!!!

Lets see, M44, CETME, SKS and AR. I dont use my AK for hunting, as I wouldn't want to take a long shot with it. My primary Deer rifle is my .308 Saiga.
Also, remember that the Winchester 30-30 WAS originally a military rifle. It's also my favorite brush gun when I'm stalking Bambi...

I've gone hunting with my Mosin M38, Yugo 24/47, and my Wasr (who says AK's aren't sporting). But haven't seen any deer when I've been using them. This year, if our area stays rifle, it may be the CETME. otherwise back to my sporting shotgun. Winchester 1300 Defender 7+1:icon_biggrin:
