What do I need to modify on a HK Buttstock to use the cetme recoil spring / recoil buffer? Can I just change out the recoil spring and not the buffer? Any thoughts would help. I feel I should know this but my focus has been 99% G3 1% Cetme.

Is this correct?

All you should have to do is make the diameter of the plastic retainer on the recoil rod smaller, at the end that goes into the carrier.
Since the CETME is built on a G3 pattern receiver, the stock should slide right on. May be a little interference on the rear of the trigger pack, but other than that it should fit.

To use a HK buttstock on a Cetme buttstock housing recoil spring? Or using an entire G3 buttstock/housing?
On a G3 housing on a Cetme:
You only need to file down the plastic bushing on the recoil spring retainer to fit into the bolt carrier.
Or you can take the Cetme retainer and put it on the G3 guild rod. The holes don't line up, so I drilled a new one when I did it.

Many thanks. I will probably file down the bushing. Simple solutions are usually best. Occams razor and all that.

I just put the G3 stock on mine and all I had to do was file down the bushing on guide rod. The folks here taught me that. I had a little problem as texlurch said with my trigger pack. The very back portion just above and behind the grip extended just a little to far to fit into the stock. I dremmeled the back down maybe a 1/16" and it fit perfect Very tight though.
