My own feeling is that a lot of guys will be selling their CETMes and PTRs with
the present availability of 7.62 NATO. Over the last year milsurp has all but dried up it seems. If you didn't stockpile some when it was cheap or reload your out of luck.

will, I was gonna say blasphemy, but you did sell when cetmerifles was no longer, and since we are not just about the cetme it will be OK. :) JK. Hope you got a good deal for it. I may have to oil mine and put it up till I get enough loaded to shoot it as I come across components.

Don't feel too bad. I sold my Cetme about two years ago and sold my FR8 about a year ago. Had to have money to keep my Swiss flu under control. Had a 1933 come up and also a 1943 with the spliced stock I just had to have. My FR8 went to a forum member and I know it is appreciated. Now that 7.62x51 is so expensive I wish I had held on to the 3000 rounds I sold to the guy who bought the Cetme. I could really make some cash selling all that Port and Aussie I had.
However I went a different direction. I also sold my FAL and the only semi's I have now are my M1 Garands and my AR15.

I can see doing the same thing myself when I run out of ammo. That may be a while. I have about a thousand rounds of SA and a few hundred of SB. However, I have lot a of other guns that I shoot as well and I sort of rotate what I take to the range and I am not fast ammo burner so it may last me a while. Or maybe I will just hang my CETME up on the wall and wait for some more ammo to be discovered. :dsia:

Man I couldn't do that. That would be like selling a kid. Well I might sell a couple of mine but not the first one I bought that brought me to the Cetmerifles site. I will always keep my "first borne" Cetme!

I sold my S/A match M1A with all TRW parts except the barrel(S/A) reciever when I short on cash. It turned out one of the local PDs bought it and mounted a Leatherwood scope on it. I regret it to this day.. I also traded my 1943 dated TT to pay for some work. I regert giving that away. I wanted a CETME since I was in High school(Along time ago!) I don't think I will ever sell. When I am dead I will give my CETME to #1 son and the FAL to #2 son. The rest will go to my brothers, or in-laws. I don't want my guns and equipment being sold at some gun auction.

One thing I have found interesting is when the UPS man brings a new weapon my boys ask.. can I have this when you die? Yes Ok cool! The other son asks what about me? Ok you can have the next one.

My most regrettable sale was a 7mm TGE "Baby" Nambu pistol that my Dad
had traded a Russian soldier a Navy sweater and cigarettes for in Manchuria during WW2.
I was going through a divorce at the time and had to pony up lawyer fees.
At least it went to NRA prez Dick Riley...small consolation though.

I cannot say I have sold more than one gun in my life. I try to keep what I buy but its tough some days. On the thought of being able to shoot, thats where it comes in to buying ammo when its available. I think I have three to four thousand rounds of 308 which should keep me shooting for a while.

I had an Anschutz mannlicher in .222 Remington with a Leupold 2-7x "Safe Queen" and sold it to my boss when I was in a cash bind for $400. The foot marks eventually went away. :(

He is eying a minty Romy G with equally minty bayonet I have, as an investment. Perhaps he'll trade me back. ;)

I've gone through days just pondering the same thing; should I sell off my CETMEs or not? I haven't shot them in almost 2 years now because I've got so many other rifles that are taking up the majority of my time. As for selling off other rifles, I went through a selling frenzy with my ARs last summer and have regretted it ever since. That is why you'll see me building AR kits left and right...to try and console myself, I guess.

I have regretted every firearm I have sold (with the excetion of the S&W Smegma .40 cal. I sold...I hated that gun). The first I sold were my old .22 Remington nylon 66 that I wish I still had and my grandad's .351! Which are now going for $700+ I sold them because I was young and my first wife absolutely hated guns and wouldn't let them in the house:1087: Man that woman was a b*tch. I have been looking to get another Nylon 66 but everytime I find one they want $300+ for them:052: . Maybe after I buy my AK. I have been tempted to sell my CETME (ammo prices) but it runs so great I just can't bring myself to.

Since I have been around longer than most of you, I probably have sold more guns that I ever regretted selling from trap guns to AR-180's. The one I regret the most was a custom Hawken rifle in 54 cal. that was a copy of the one in the Masonic Temple in Sante Fe. At the time, the guy just offered me waaay too much money and I figured why not. Regrets ever since

I traded my CETME for a SAR8. Although I plan on building a CETME from a JLD receiver.

I'll never sell mine. I have $299* into it, which is $20 les than I paid for a WASR 10 Hi-cap. For that kinc of investment, I can keep it through every .308 drought. It's nit like this is the first time a caliber I shoot has been scarce.

* Not counting the Ace folder, extra mags, and Cetme B parts!

It's hard do know exactly what each of us might do in a grave situation. I know on more than one occassion I let life get the better of me and parted with one of my firearms. Maybe it was the bright lights, the wild women, or just the fact that I was offered more than the gun would ever be worth; but I did it. We are all guilty of such transgressions but must find comfort in the sure and certain truth that around the corner there is another fine firearm in need of a good home.

well for me it was a business decision

I traded my CETME for a SAR8. .

Reasons for getting rid of my CETME:
-the original CETME I got when they were still expensive and not grinding bolts, had a bad barrel, sent it back to CIA. they send be back a grinder (it was not known at that time they were grinding bolt heads) ! I sent it back to fix the rear sight problem. When CIA had my CETME the "ground bolt" issue was discovered.
They refused to fix it and sent it back along with a letter saying " there is nothing wrong with your CETME. Also, we fixed your CETME 2 times, we will not fix it any more as we fixed all the problems"
After two years of calling them and them saying its safe and then hang up on me, I found out who the president was. Sent him a e-mail saying "I am taking youths shooting with the ground bolt CETME, is it safe for the youths to shoot?"
I got a reply telling me not to shoot the CETME and to send it back for repairs.
They fixed it but after all the hell I got from them I don't want anything with the CIA billboard on it in my collection!!!!

I had a Springfield Armory SAR 48(00), can't remember the correct number, with the factory folding stock. FNFAL copy. Absolutely flawless in look and function. Sold it years ago for 650.00 the same I paid for it. Like everyone else, if I had all the guns I've owned back, I could retire.

Except to retire you would have to sell all those guns again and go through the regrets again.:wohow:

Now is the time to buy a CETME, when .308 prices are skyrocketing and people are dumping the rifles. Two years ago was the time to buy .308 ammo... The ammo drought will end someday, the ammo will come down and the rifles will go back up. I just bought two for $150 each (both needed some parts and fitting work, but I've been having fun doing it)

Now is a good time to shoot those DCM garands that were bought cheap, while the .30/06 is still running $240 a thousand. It's also a good time to take up reloading!

I don't sell guns I even halfway like, since they hold their value pretty well, and may eventually become unavailable (legally) at any price. However, if I was in debt and/or not bringing in any income I would certainly thin the herd.

I parted with one of the CETMEs and FALs, but kept an example of each.
The 7.62 NATO supply is gone and I doubt I'll never get a chance to blast away with the big bores like I used to.The M1As are used for long range work.
I can get onto a Guard base down in RI every now and then that has a 500 meter range and my place in PA lets me shoot out to just over 700 yards.
I have a moderate supply of Milsurp left, including 5K rds of Port that I horde like gold.

I've sold one pistol, a Browning Hipower I bought in the early seventies. It came with a real leather gunrug. It was beautiful and shot great. But I wasn't a gunny back then. I bought after my apartment had been robbed while I slept.

I traded in a Ruger P90 .45 for a CZ97 .45, The Ruger was killer accurret but unreliable even after a trip back to the factory.

One of my daughters has a Makarov and M1 carbine I initialy bought, and gave her for birthdays. ( actually, the sweet thing just appropriated the carbine after shooting it, allowing me to get a better one)

Well I really love the Cetme however I do not like the monkeys at century. My first Cetme was a stamped reciever my second was a cast reciever. Both of my Cetmes had ground bolts and I had to put a lot of time and money into them and then I still had a used rifle that was almost impossible to mount a scope on properly. I was able to fix the stamped Cetme but the other one was going to have to have the barrel repressed I didn't have the proper tools or skill and I did not want to put another dime into the rifle so i sold all of my Cetme stuff a few years ago.

I love these rifles maybe if I can get a Mars Cetme someday I will, or possibly a well built one. I don't think I will ever own another Century Cetme though.

Cetmerifles.com was what got me into the roller locking delayed blow back design. I love the HK91 but like the Mars Cetme I can't afford one, so I decided to go with the PTR. I love my PTR and I now have two of them.

I still have a couple thousand rounds of 7.62x51 and two G3 kits as well as a 24" JLD barrel so I think I will stick with this platform for a while.

I plan on keeping my cetme, atleast one of them, but yes its getting more expensive to shoot the military surplus rifle, after years of it getting cheaper. I think that there are lots more folks shooting mil surplus, with the explosion of kits hitting the market and now semi auto builds for all sorts of 308's. Heck I have plenty of ammo if I dont get a belt fed and six mbr's in .308 plust one kit to build some day.

I put mine up for sale once....... kinda luckily for me, nobody bit. Really, for me right now, it wouldn't be a bad idea for me to sell my Cetme. Im in debt by a few thousand, and Im getting married in just a hair over 2 months... Now would be a great time to sell a few things, and get outta debt, so thats not unneeded stress in our marriage. But its something Ive pondered and pondered, and I'm stuck. Ill probably keep it unless I get some absolutely unreasonable offer at a gunshow or something. Shoot, when I first got it, I got an offer of $1k without a single accessory on it. Some guy who said he wanted a Limited and missed the boat to buy one.

Ive sold plenty I regret in my young days...

A Baby Eagle with a serial # under 30,000
a Taurus 357 mag
a Remington 700 VLS in 308
a 10-22 converted into 17 mach 2
a Beretta PX4
a Mosin M38
a RC K98
a Russian SKS
a Cobra double derringer in 38 spcl (serial number 00000049)
a regular 10-22

I think thats it... I'd love to have each one of them back, but each one funded another one in my collection, and Im extremely happy with what I have now.

I sold off my 1st CETME when I couldn't get it to run correctly and that was before I discovered the old CETMErifles forum. I eventually got a second
rifle that has been great except for a couple of minor issues.

I can't imagine selling off this second CETME as it works correctly and even though its a stamped receiver it has an unground bolt, it headspaces correctly and shoots to point of aim. Since I got a good one its going to
be a keeper even if the ammo situation doesn't come back.

03-16-2007, 01:12 PM
I thought about selling the CETME, but it turned out to be one of those passing thoughts. I don't believe that the 7.62x51 drought is permanent, so I'm hanging on to my stuff. I'll probably be tearing mine down for a rebuild.

Isn't Century going to be making another run of CETMEs? With no cheap ammo out there?
