Thats right, you lived here and no one showed you that the mason dixon line was across the TOP of Maryland... meaning its a Southern State!
http://z.about.com/d/geography/1/8/r/A/masondixon.jpg
Please, I know its tempting but don't though us in with the Yankee scum! Remember the first Blood of the Civil War was right down by Oriole park when the Union Arm shot the protestors in Baltimore City who stood out to stop the Yankee troops. They had to lock up the Govenor, Mayor and turn the guns of Fort McHenry on the City to keep Maryland for Joining the CSA. We were just the first state lost! Just like now... Maryland is turning liberal and VA is right behind... next it will be Texas!
So get it right or you will get:

On being southern, the folks here in SE Oklahoma say if you are living north of I-40 in the state you are a yankee. The entire state here is well south of the mason dixion line, but so is kansas but heck its all just lines on maps.

Yes Okie, but we southerners think anyone west of the Mississippi are Yankee's :)

Chris, they can think that, I know there are folks that think that Oklahoma is midwestern, but I live in the heart of "Little Dixie", the tribes in the south and east of the state(Cherokee and Choctaws) during the Civil War fought for the south, and even owned slaves thus were really southern. I am from Kansas thus not a rebel, but you call the natives here Yankees, you got a big fight on your hands.
P.S. well atleast we all for the most part think of our selves as americans.

bullseye, I am sorry if you were born that way, God can be cruel!
But seriously Tanker, I do not get offended over stupid crap like this... I was more making a joke out of it. But if you do want to get it right, I would not mind being disassociated with the hated Yankees. :) Otherwise I will just

But I hopefully dont have any of them go boom until we want it too. I always remember things I take for granted in my job. I was working friday while they were running some equipment, heck two tons of high explosive dont even bother me to walk in while they are working on melting and flakeing the stuff any more.

1.)The first blood of the Civil War was spilled in Missouri and Kansas in the 1850's.
2.)What kind of true southerner calls it the Civil War?

1850s...1776... there were lots of problems leading up to the war but the first time Union or Confederate soldiers shot someone was in the streets of Baltimore after war was declared.
Well I only call it that because of the way text books are now. But you are right... its The War of Northern Aggression.

Check out the end of Maryland's state song! See at one time we were a great state. Not so much anymore :(
Maryland, My Maryland
I
The despot's heel is on thy shore,
Maryland!
His torch is at thy temple door,
Maryland!
Avenge the patriotic gore
That flecked the streets of Baltimore,
And be the battle queen of yore,
Maryland! My Maryland!
II
Hark to an exiled son's appeal,
Maryland!
My Mother State! to thee I kneel,
Maryland!
For life or death, for woe or weal,
Thy peerless chivalry reveal,
And gird they beauteous limbs with steel,
Maryland! My Maryland!
III
Thou wilt not cower in the dust,
Maryland!
Thy beaming sword shall never rust,
Maryland!
Remember Carroll's sacred trust,
Remember Howard's warlike thrust,-
And all thy slumberers with the just,
Maryland! My Maryland!
IV
Come! 'tis the red dawn of the day,
Maryland!
Come with thy panoplied array,
Maryland!
With Ringgold's spirit for the fray,
With Watson's blood at Monterey,
With fearless Lowe and dashing May,
Maryland! My Maryland!
V
Come! for thy shield is bright and strong,
Maryland!
Come! for thy dalliance does thee wrong,
Maryland!
Come to thine own anointed throng,
Stalking with Liberty along,
And sing thy dauntless slogan song,
Maryland! My Maryland!
VI
Dear Mother! burst the tyrant's chain,
Maryland!
Virginia should not call in vain,
Maryland!
She meets her sisters on the plain-
Sic semper! 'tis the proud refrain
That baffles minions back amain,
Maryland!
Arise in majesty again,
Maryland! My Maryland!
VII
I see the blush upon thy cheek,
Maryland!
For thou wast ever bravely meek,
Maryland!
But lo! there surges forth a shriek,
From hill to hill, from creek to creek,
Potomac calls to Chesapeake,
Maryland! My Maryland!
VIII
Thou wilt not yield the Vandal toll,
Maryland!
Thou wilt not crook to his control,
Maryland!
Better the fire upon thee roll, Better the shot, the blade, the bowl,
Than crucifixion of the Soul,
Maryland! My Maryland!
IX
I hear the distant thunder-hum,
Maryland!
The Old Line bugle, fife, and drum,
Maryland!
She is not dead, nor deaf, nor dumb-
Huzza! She spurns the Northern scum!
She breathes! She burns! She'll come! She'll come!
Maryland! My Maryland!

What I posted was an old friendly joke between Okies when I was growing up. Hell they probably still kid around about it today. our old family barber used to say anybody standing north of him was a yankee lol.
But when I lived in Fla there were people who took that stuff seriously, still living in the past. Never understood it myself, after all this time.
Hope i didn't offend anyone. Cuz all I believe is we are all:America:.

From King of the Hill: Yeah, yeah, everyones a Texan. Change planes in Dallas and you're a Texan. Sigh.
That songs too long, but obviously heartfelt. Better than O Canada.

You know its not living in the past... You hear all the time about stupid Southerns because they talk slow and have an accent. This kind of stuff has been going on since Sherman marched an army across the south, burning, raping and destroying everything in his path.
Its not the past when Northerners move south like they have in my state and turn it into a liberal state.
But the reason Southerns still hate the northerners so much is that the northerns still feel like its their business what the Southerns are doing! You take a Northerner and take him into the south and they treat him well. You take a Southerner and put him in the north and they treat him like he is a second class American.
I know how it is because I live on the line. I see both sides and how they treat each other. I understand why the Southerners hate the northerners. Now I am in the worst place because I am a northerner to Southerners and a Southern to people in the north.
They might not have the Carpet bagger Union army still in the South, but they make sure to keep their foot on their neck! Oh and they have not forgotten the way the North treated the South after the Civil war. One American by the Muzzle of a gun... Then they try to act like it was about slavery! Do not know the last place in the US to have slaves was MD? Why you ask? Because its one of the slave holding states that did not join the CSA. Lincoln only freed the slaves in the CSA. MD kept its slaves through the whole war and even a little while after!

Oh I know about the Southern discrimination. I'm from OK and my accent is pretty bad so I'm usually judged a southerner the minute I talk to someone. But like I said before I'm from the midwest and all the Yankee/Rebel feelings just aren't like they are in the true south or north.
And I do know about the northern slaves and how the north wanted to keep them.
IMHO it's more about patriots aginst big gov trying to take our freedoms away in todays world that I worry about.
