I adopted a mauser rifle today. I know (think) it's spanish but I'm not too big on bolt actions. It's been modified but I don't know to what extent. On the top of the receiver is "fabrica dearmas" "oviedo 1934"
On the side it's staped "P.A.C. 44". It has such a thick layer of black paint on it that I can barely see the serial number but can't even tell what they are. The left rear side of the bolt has "200" stamped on it.
I'm assuming it's also a 7mm right?
Is it possible to restore it back to military style? If not, can this action be used to build a custom rifle with? Action is nice and tight.
Thanks for the help.

I believe that you have a 1916 spanish oviedo mauser, made in 34,

This page discusses the serial number vs year of mfg, and other details of the sights and features of the rifle.
Heres a page discussing us sporting conversions

Thanks for the great post I had a rifle just like the Monkey Wards Spanish 7 mm sporter.site I gave it to my brother and have been trying get it back for years. I will have to motivate him again.
BTW the info page you posted was of great interest to me and I have saved it for further reading. I am very interested in ther Spanish Civil war and the fact the had rifles marked for each side was very cool.

Gland to be of service guys, I am amazed whats out there on the net, just need to make sure what you are searching for, that was interesting on reading about these less famous mausers, but guess they in the day were imported here in mass. Just like other available ex WWII and earler rifles brought in to the country and sold before the 68gca mail order.

I know this is a "series 2" receiver but what model is it? Is it a Mauser 93?
I want to upgrade the trigger later and some are very specific to the model.
