I noticed that CFS has these kits on backorder. 8x57 mm
Somewhat reasonable price, if, with a good barrel.
I may spring for one of these and do a semi-auto.
There are some good vids at this site, plus conversion parts.

As a semi, this thing rocks.

Id say dont bother with the kits and but your name asap on centuries list for an actually ready to go m53 rifle. By the time you go and buy a receiver and work it all out I think you would wind up spending close to what they are selling them for. furthermore Wiselite is building them so I think the quality will be there unlike the cetmes they made.:flexion:

You'll pay more. But like the CETME & G3, AK builds. You'll know more about your weapon than most civilian gunsmiths. I think that's how the whole CETMERifles forum began, builders exchanging idea's and problem solving. Plus, you'll know you have a quality weapon. Not a crap shoot.

I'm in it for the building.
Looks like some intense work Turbo.
I'd be up for a scratch Receiver to save a few bucks.

hey, the dam thing is a jinx! if i make it so the buffer spins to come out it is too wide for the top cover. if i make it right for the cover then the buffer only spins half way. i am using .110 wall angle so it is just barely over sized but this is redick. i found some thinner i might try that.

common problem it seems - i have to trim my buffer housings to get them to fit in my WW2 receiver. Something about the post war buffers, or the buffer tabs, i havent quite figured out what is causing it, but its definately not right on my gun either. my top cover fits TIGHT enough as it is, and the buffer wont spin in. i think they might have been a file to fit type of thing because the buffer housing that came with my kit spins and locks right in, but i damaged it when enlarging the bore to clear the bolt extension. ive tried both a yugo, and a brand new german buffer housing from RTG and both are too big to fit. ON MY GUN, its the thickness of the ring that locks in that is the problem, not the diameter of the ring.
i would also HEAVILY consider welding in the semi auto bolt blocking block before you do anything else!!

I have messed with more than a few of these things and they are with out a doubt... the most finicky bastards to make run realiably in semi auto that there ever was. I really hope that Wise Lite/ Century figures them out really well and that they all run great out of the box. But in my heart I think they are going to wear them out sending them back for repairs.

The insides on a real one have a relief machined into the sides of the receiver so it will turn. Maybe half way through the sheet metal. How are you going to build the cocking handle channel and the ratchet plate?

i ordered a few guns ( galils) on friday, don't know when i will get them or if, but i am on the list.
i asked about the m-53's and it's not looking good, may be a long while on them. maybe some time in the summer..........who knows........they just didn't know............
guns and ammo are getting thin at the wholesalers, they are beginning to run out/getting low and don't know when or if they will be getting more in....

man, you aint kidding bro!!
ive noticed a HUGE difference just between different parts. Some parts fit perfectly, some parts dont, some parts fit tight, some parts fit loose, some this, some that - ALL affect operation of the gun some how.
if WLA test fires each gun (and they BETTER), its gonna take them FOREVER to tweak these things.
i cant wait for these guys who buy the m53. I cant wait for the very first time they take there recuperator out and study how it works - i was FLOORED at why they made that thing so GD complicated, the very first time i assembled mine.

The dang Germans overengineered a lot of the stuff they did. Came up with some neat ideas but dang they're crazy with what they do.

Hey Rahatlakhoom... let us know what these look like. I've been eyeing these kits hard and my buddy keeps flaunting his MG-34 in front of me.

so from what I'm reading here it'll be a pain in the ass to switch calibers? Maybe I'll just get a 1919.

Calibers are easy to switch on a MG42. Change the barrel, feed tray, top cover, booster and noozle...nothign to it.

I don't know of anywhere to get them at present.
I just got in on a weaponeer group buy while they still had
260 kits, I checked on the buy a week later and they were all gone.
There may be more kits when they release them thru CAI, that's what's
holding my delivery up. Stay sharp, they may not last long next time either.
