My brother found this deal for me and I picked it up today. It's a Springfield Armory 1911-A1. I was told the recoil spring had been changed out and a Chip McCormick trigger put in. Came with 3 mags. I paid a whopping $400 for it. Guy couldn't hit with it and kept blaming it on the gun. I'm glad this guy was buying a rifle instead.
I put about 50 round through it and never missed the A or B lines of my cardboard silhouette at 25-30 yards.

I edited out the serial number with photoshop in the pic for those that might notice.

that is a sweet find! i've got two SA 1911s (gi model and trp...both stainless) and couldn't be happier with them. that's a HELL of a good price though.
both of mine were surprisingly accurate and reliable. the only issues i've ever had is the trp doesn't like its factory mags, so i switched them out with chip mccormick's and they work fine. SA makes a hell of a 1911.

You can just change your mags out right? Keep those low caps for backup or sell them cheap.

Sounds like you made an awesome deal Pidaster! Like Phirebug, I too have a pair of SA 1911's. Both are the plain jane parkerized models, but both are good performers.

Hi all,
not to highjack the thread, but have any of you with springfields noticed the barrel seperating from the chamber? I have about 1000 rounds through mine and it has a tiny gap.

I would think it's a one piece design being a barrel and all. You might want a gunsmith to take a look at that.

I heard that the chamber and the barrel on Springfields are 2 pieces pressed together where as a Colt is all 1 piece. They said Springfield makes em that way because it is cheaper.

I hope you can see the gap. The gun shoots WAY better than my Series 80 Officers Model.

Springfield (and Browning too), use crush fit barrels and chambers, they're two pieces crushed together. I've NEVER seen one seperate, and I can't really tell with your picture if it's happening. It's normal to see a little line though. Set your camera to Macro for close up pics.
To the original poster.....Great Score Man!
About the only thing I'd do is replace the full length guide rod with a standard military length one and a regular recoil spring plug, and you're good to go!

My latest thing is buying pimped out 1911's and restoring them. I've got someone who'll strip the chrome for me, and then I replace the parts until I've got a good shooter.
