I just came home from a show and bought a Saiga 410. Anybody else have one of these? What do you think of it? I was wondering if anybody knows of a place that sells the 10 rd mag?

I have one and love it. It likes all the ammo I've ever fed it without a hiccup. Do you plan on converting it or leaving it?

Its not a question on IF hes going convert; its WHEN hes going convert. :)

The cool thing is if you convert a 410 is it can be made to look pretty close to a real AK.

He would convert it from a monte carlo stock sporting rifle to an AK configuration with evil pistol grip, muzzle brake and other 'evil' features. . . .

OH! I've never seen one with a monte carlo, I guess that's what had me cornfused.

Yeah, thanks to our weird laws, the Monte Carlo version is the only version that can be imported.
Saiga actually makes an AK configured rifle (http://www.izhmash.ru/eng/product/saiga.shtml) (looks just like an AK-100 (http://club.guns.ru/eng/ak100.htm) series with side folding stock and everything) for sale to enlightened countries....

I have the synthetic monte stock and forearm. I didn't know you can convert them either. I'll probably leave it that way, but just in case who sells the parts.

Really? I guess I'm showing my scatter-gun ignorance here, but I always thought that the .410 was kinda the .22LR of the shotgun world. Have I under-estimated it?

Really? I guess I'm showing my scatter-gun ignorance here, but I always thought that the .410 was kinda the .22LR of the shotgun world. Have I under-estimated it? Well, it is a .41 caliber bore. You can shoot 3 or 4 .41 caliber balls (or a big-a** slug) out of a .410 round, so it doesn't seem so anemic to me. Less recoil makes it more controllable and comfortable to shoot.

i have one
it will be getting the treatment.
they are WAY easier in the recoil dept than the saiga 12s - WAY easier.
i wouldnt call the 410 the 22lr of the shotgun world, i would call it the experts shotgun.
ANYBODY can shoot a 12 gauge and hit clays - try it with a .410 ;)

I once saw a kid shoot FINCHES from a MOVING CAR with a 410.
He had a disabled owl as a pet, and would hunt finches off of fenceposts on his farm to feed it.
Quite simply he would drive down the lanes on his farm with the shotgun out the window of his truck, and when he saw the bird, BLAM and it was all over.

Picture came right off the factory website.
instead of a conversion they make a switch out stock with apistol grip and folder.(it fits all saigas)

If you replaced the stock with the Izzy folder you would be violating 922R and would have to replace trigger/hand guard parts. so you might as well do a conversion anyways.

i like to think i do good work too, and for MUCH cheaper. ill be converting my own, but thanks :)
the trigger guard is simply 1 rivet. Ive riveted enough AKs together in my lifetime to be proficient at that.
i can also press the barrel out, turn it down, move the gas block back, and thread the barrel for a fake flash hider, and repaint it.
i also have an idea im playing around with for CHEAP hi cap mags by utilizing an existing mag - should be an easy conversion to the high cap by simply lengthening the magwell hole a small amount, and by welding a catch onto the magazine.
ive seen his work. It is first rate work, but i can do the same thing for much less, and its my hobby and something i love to do. the only advantage is the time it will take me to get around to doing it.
he also grafts those HK sights onto it which makes me CRINGE.

Will at RedJacket firearms is in love with the H&K sights on AKs, too.
I don't understand it, either.

i have plans for an existing high cap mag. it is SOOOOOOO close, it barely needs breathed on to get it to work.
It will require running a 1/4 inch end mill across the front of the magwell enlarging the magwell about 1/16 of an inch.
Then lowering the area in front of the mag a hair cause it is used to having pointed bullets come out of it instead of fat 410 shells
and then milling some extensions to spot weld to the back of the magazine to get it to lock into the receiver. Or, you could simply rob the piece from a cheap AK mag.
ill get around to it one day, but its SOOOOOO close, it should be a walk in the park.
You probably wont ever be able to use the factory mags in it again after enlarging the magwell, but at $8.00 per 20 round PLUS mag, who cares
no details till i get it worked out, cause someone will steal the idea and start selling it, and thatll ass me up, but if i get it figured out, ill post the details.
It wont be anytime soon though, got too many in line before the saiga

Heck...I would have sent mine to YOU instead. My only other option at the time was Elite Firearms....and I got scared off of that guy after doing some research..

I've got one also, 922r compliant as soon as I get a new front stock for it. It is dissassembled until then.
I did this 2 years ago and it is still not done.:sleepy:
