This is my FN M 1949 It is an Egyptian army model in 8mm. I got her in 1986 and found it to shoot great. It is to a FAL what a M1 is to an M 14. It's father the inventor brought the prints to England when Beligum fell the Germans. The Brits liked it , but could not convert it to 303 with ease. Latter In korea it proved itself to be a first class battle rifle that worked under nearly all weather conditions. It was well liked by the troops who used it. Accurate rugged, reliable and powerfull. It is one of my favorite weapons

Nice looking gun Norton. I'm a big fan of the 8mm round. I currently have a few 8mm Egyptian Hakims.

Since reading up some on the FN49 I'd like to find a deal on one myself.

I keep my eyes open for the FN49 in 8mm. Like the round and the rifle. Yours looks sharp.

I have three 8mm's.
1 7mm and one 30.06!
I really like them and they all shoot great.

i've been looking for an 8mm model in decent shape for almost 11 years, and havent come across one at a high price, much less a good price, but then again, this whole online thing may end up ghaning that for me

I have had the itch for one in 7X57 for 15 years. It would be a nice companion for the two Spanish short rifles in same caliber. Unfortunately, that seems to be the version that is most expensive, 06 may be more. I have seen a few but prices near $800. Too pricey for my blood.

Very nice. See! Now this ( and rifles like these ) is a perfect example of what rifles should be like. Simple, unclutered, and tough. Like many other military type rifles. I love them.

Hey folks I'm a newbie here but have a question
FN M49 , Argentina navy, chambered in 7.62 X 51mm, looks a little rough, 800$ at the local overpriced gun shop...good deal or bad deal. Good gun?

If you are looking for FN49's I saw a few on Gbroker last night.
I have five in three calibers and don't need any more. Or maybe I do!

Ya you do, as we all do, heck there are proably a couple of more calibers floating around(but very rare editions out there).

Hi Everybody,
Nice pic's thanks for sharing Norton. I'm still kicking myself for not getting the one I saw a while back at a show.
Can you tell me what to look for in an FN-49 and also how easy/hard is it to clean and maintain?

Thanks,
Gairwyn

Used to have a 7X57 and two 8X57s. Never knew they would be worth hanging onto.
