If any of you have the March 19 issue of Shotgun News there is an article on Finnish Sniper Team Competition. In the article it makes reference to a Mosin that had been converted to .300 Win Mag and was shooting hot loads. The rifle had the usual changes made (different trigger, better bolt handle, etc) but my question is whether the Mosin is a strong enough action to handle this cartridge. Evidently it is, but maybe this is an isolated case. What do you guys think?

No I have never heard of or seen a Mosin in 300. Win mag. I have saw advertizments for Mosins converted to 30 06 in 1950s Popular Mechanics magazines. The small ad said ''Russian Army rifles in powerful 30 06 only $29''.
A few years back I saw a small paragraph in the American Rifleman talking about this type of thing being done in the 50s to both Russian and Japanese rifles. The upshot was don't shoot them. But if this Finn 300 was done in their country by their millitary gunsmiths I would shoot it.

I can think of better rifles to build a .300 mag on. Like anything but a Mosin

Most of the MN were proofed pretty darned hot, at least from what I have read. I guess they must have done the R&D however, I second the notion that there are better actions to build a .300WM.

I think everyone is missing the point here, The rifle is the home grown finish rifle(like the snipers of the us historically useing us military actions, thus their shooting team would want to continue the military traditions. With proper heat treatment and such almost any action can with alterations be fitted to most hot cartriages. I am sure they arent doing anything questionable with the actions.
