Went to the CMP north store yesterday to check out the 4 M1 Carbines that they just received for display purposes....from what I could see, they were in fairly good shape. Wish I brought my camera, but my buddies and I attended a gunshow prior to making the trip to the CMP and I didn't feel like lugging all the equipment around.

As for the Carbines, there were no set pricing info available at the time, but was told that they would begin sales in my neck of the woods on April 1st. They are going to limit it to 1 rifle of each manufacturer (11 total) each year. So far, they are going to start off with the Inlands and I'm not sure when the next manufacturer will follow.

I live near Camp Perry so I plan to visit the CMP store as soon as there are some carbines available. This guy might need a locker mate.

M1 Carbine, there's another example of guns I wish I'd kept. I had a nice WWII model (Made by Singer Sewing Machine Co.) :D and I traded it for a sporterized .03 Springfield.

I'd be coming home with an extra carbine if they were selling them on my way through. I hope to stop and see the place though. Been meaning to make a trip for a while.

They begin offering them at the North Store on April 1st, so if you are driving through, drop by. Make sure you have your paperwork on you if you haven't already sent them in....and give me a call if you're close by....

Hopefully, they'll be in the 500-600USD range, and not much more than that.

I have been saving my $.01's for one. I have several Garands, but would love to add a carbine. :) I bet the North Store will be a zoo in April.

As of last weekend, they still didn't have an idea as to how much they would be selling them for...all I know is that they had roughly 30,000 of them that they were categorizing.

I've got a Rock-Ola that I bought a few years ago (pd $150) that I'm going to give to my eldest son this summer. I already gave my youngest my Garand last year. I didn't shoot them much and they will. The only catch is that they are just LOANED to them, till I die then they can keep them.

Hey Knobby,

since I am going to be in Europe come April, and knowing my luck those carbines will sell out in the first HOUR or so....

Do you mind picking me up one?

I will gladly send you the funds in advance.

They've got 30,000 of them....am sure they'll be plenty around, but I can help you out. Right now, I'm still trying to get some info on how they're handling the quota. They told me one rifle of each manufacturer (11 in total), but haven't told me when they'd get the next manufacturer, other than Inland, in.

Yeah, I just don't want to miss the boat on these.

I understand; I'll see what I can do. Originally, I was hoping to do a "group-buy" like I normally did with the garands, but they are being a little more strict on the carbines.

I have one Inland. Love it. Always wanted one, such a sweet shooter. I'd love to have another. I guess I better join CMP... Find my old dd214 and stuff then send it in.

I dumped a GI carbine with what must have been an original folder.
My father was WWII 82nd AB and he said it was that they used. I traded it off for a Harly transmission back in the late 70s. When I was in high school, before the '68 GCA, the local hardware store had a barrel with M1 carbines that were selling for, I believe, around $40 a piece with 1 clip. Anyone care to speculate on what CMP will get for these units that are coming back?

They haven't yet come up with an asking price, but I believe it's going to be in the range of $400 - $500. I'll know better in about 2 weeks, or when I actually go down there again. The 4 that they had on display were very nice considering that they just randomly sent them, cosmoline and all, for display purposes only. Couldn't even bribe my friend to let me take one home that day...:airtight:

--Yeah, a buddy of mine got one in the mid 80s when he was 18(-2) at a flea mkt for 120USD..with a 20 and 30 round mag.

Why have they increased in value so damned much? Back in the early 70's you could get a new one (I forget who was making them or selling them) but they weren't much over $100.00. I traded my old one because I figured I could always get another one..
Sheeit, I just realized that $500.00 isn't that bad, I making 6 times as much as I was back in the early 70's (same job, same company).

Supply and demand man. Every day there's someone wanting to buy one. Once they are held in private hands the price starts to climb. Look at a lot of the milsurps out there.

You could buy them in the early 90's for around $100. The main increase is Clinton's ban on reimporting US Arms from abroad. That happened in like 1994 I think. After that, US arms, especially the M1 Carbine really took off in price.

CMP has finally posted pricing for Service Grade Inland carbines. $495.00
Plus the usual S&H of $22.95. They won't start taking orders until April 30, 2007. All other manufacturers models are not posted for sale until Sept. 2007 at the earliest.
These are almost all Italian arsenal rebuilds with replacement stocks from Italy.
Just incase anyone is interested.

Sounds like a crap shoot. Some will get a real deal. If I order one it will be probably be a Italian Bubbajobosa with extra staking on the side!

I cannot imagine you will get hurt, they are a far cry from the hundred and fifty dollar ones in the early ninties. I went to a auction to bid on a carbine in December, the price hit four hundred and I was out, the final bid was close to seven hundred. This is going to get lots of folks into carbines, hopefully it just wont line the pockets of dealers.

I've seen a few Italian arsenal rebuilds and they are typically very nicely done. I would expect the current crop of carbines to be pretty nice. Yes, most of them will have Italian stocks/parts, but that doesn't take away from their appeal as shooters.

I expect that I'll put one on my CC too. I wish I was closer and could go to the store front and actual see what I am buying.
