Was fossicking around the Itntraweb for some good pics of Portuguese tropas in their colonial wars fielding G3's (without much succes), when I came-up with this pic - which made me think of yawl!

Enjoy!

Great picture, I used to work with Portugese concrete men somtimes. I spoke with the older than 40 crowd and the company owner about the CETME/G3 and asked if they wanted to see mine. So I brought it in to the jobsite one day and they went nuts. I guess Portugal used to have a draft, so you had to go in back then. The oldest dudes were sent to Angola or their other colonies in Africa to fight. That is what they carried back then thought very highly of it..
They did not go into detail only to say it held up very good in Africa and if you shot somebody with it.. They did not get up.

These old photos are cool. Need a description though. Something like:

Aboard the CENSORED off the coast of CENSORED the men of the CENSORED make preparations for the invasion of CENSORED. More as this story developes.

Best I could do with the limited information.

5.56mm Galil m/94 Assault Rifle
5.56mm SIG SG-543 Assault Rifle (only used by special forces and Comandos)
5.56mm Heckler & Koch G36C Assault Rifle (only used by special forces and Comandos)
5.56mm Colt M4 Assault Rifle (only used by special forces and Comandos)

12.7mm Heavy Machine-gun Browning M2HB
(Also used the HK21 in the 70's, though that's not on the Wiki list)

Patria Povo

well, from my experience, while Australian and US military unifroms all come in sizes Too Big and Way Too Big, Portuguese uniforms are One Size Fits All Midgets.

Interesting point .... maybe when the SLORC decided to rip-off the G3, they incorporated some of the bits of the CETME that they liked?:533:

i DONT THINK SO, THEY ARE NOT SALIORS ARE ..sorry..shipped Infantry, Infanterķa de Marina. And they do not carry Cetme long time ago. And dont carry Cetme C from about 25 years ago. So it must be a file pic that some one got to illustrate an article. But its very old.

After see Polisario member come back to me one of the worses pages in the Spain history, when in 1975 Franco Gvmt let alone to Spanish Sahara people, They were Spanish with our Passport and full nacionality, in the hands on the Marroc Dictatorship blody Hassan II.
Still they are living in Argelia.
In Basc Country we take many Saharaui childs to spend summer here in familys for feed and cure eyes, practice Spanish, and play...
They still speak Spanish and learn it in the school, in spite of they were sold for nothing to Marroco.
We are tryng to clean our black soul with theese people helping as much as we do, becuse all is less for a country witout land.
I am sure still many Cetmes in Frente Polisario hands, because many were soldiers in Spainsh African Army and take it when Spain take home troops.

That is very sad..I remember a war in what was called 'Spanish Morroco' I don't remember the details. But I thought they were still fighting in the early 1980s.
Was the former Spanish colony given to Morroco againt the will of it's people?
What happened?

By the way I like your new icon, is that a state flag?

Yes against their population and against ONU. Franco Goverment was very bad here in Spain with a lot of opposition and all their forces were used to keep with the power here , so Sahariam people was sacrified, and forgoten. Old people still carry Spansih ID cards as unic identification.
Its a very rich land with minerals and fishing( in the Ocean)
Is our flag, yes.

Explain that? did they issue them to women?

Well, they didn't issue G3s to blokes, so... no. And back in the days of the L1A1, women squaddies would be unlikely to get issued a rifle - though they'd still fire a few rounds in training. I have no idea what the back-story of that pic is - maybe she was cross trainning with the Pakis or Germans or something?

When I was in the Aus army a million years ago, women fired M16s in training, while the boys got to shoot the SLRs. The move to the AUG was touted as a way to standardize weapons across genders.
