I believe that's called a Montesa Cota, there made in Spain, I knew a guy that had like a 250cc that looked pretty much like that, it was a 73 I believe.

I think its mid 70`s.
It was not a Cota, they were made for trial....its more likely a cross Montesa, but who knows because only motor left, I think also chais was modified.

i've found some pics online of mid 70's montesa's but the tanks look different . it is a 250cc , for an old bike she used to run pretty well

my old husqvarna had the sheared key problem. i think the reason is because the flywheel has to be press onto the crank and if there is any burrs or slop it will rely on the key to take the torque. yep, it cant! i was thinking of welding mine on but sold it soon after it started doing this. good luck.........

Might be a Scorpion. Those tires make me think it was last used for TT races. They wouldn't be any good in the desert or motocross. Those were powerful engines, neat bikes.

Looks a lot earlier to me, I'd say maybe a Montesa La Cross, 250cc about 1966 era. I had a few different dirt bikes in the 70's and the Montessa's were always my dream bike, but I never had the coin back then, they were expensive in the UK.
Great looking bike.

The rear brake is on the left? and the shifter is on the right? thats backwards. I found a pic of a 125mx 18m and the motor is very similar, but the shifter and rear brake are in the "correct" spots.

The bars and the location of the pipe suggest its an on road, or flat track bike.

Not backwards that is how Triumphs, Nortons, BSAs, Enfeilds, Bultacos, OSSAs Montessas Huskys ect..
Harleys and Indians used to be before the mid 1970s.
Then the little Hitler's at DOT and in MOT in Britian forced them to ape Japan and Germany.( I may go on a rant)
I know it seems odd now but that was normal from WW1 until around 1972/74. You may find some that do not fit that timeframe, but the X type set up was popular in motorcycle racing for a varaity of reasons both in Europe and the States.

Kawasaki had a little single with a rotary gearbox shifter. After winding it out in 5th, you'd hit neutral, then 1st, then...........

It didn't last very long :icon_biggrin:

The Jawa kick starter was also the gear shift lever.
