you can loop it on your arm somehow to help fire one handed... which I'd like to see somebody actually try sometime...

Anybody have a SPAS? and have shot it extensively? I've heard so many things about them and I don't know what works in them and what doesn't.

That folder and hook are just eye candy. Yes I like eye candy too but on this rig it just makes a heavy gun more akward. Still it looks kewl and if your not using it as part of your job, it won't be too cumbersome. Just my.02 worth.
Post pics if you make one! The talent on this site is amazing.

Have a buddy that has an unfired spas 12. He says the hook was mostly for armorers to use to hang them barrel pointing downwards.

I have a SPAS-12 that I bought used and shot fairly extensively. It's never failed once with any heavy load (slugs, buck, #4 turkey, or other high-brass I've tried), but fails often in semi-auto with light target loads. That's what the manual says it'll do, though.
It has very little felt recoil, probably due to the weight. That makes it easy to empty a tube full of buck into a target fast, which is really fun, albeit really expensive.
Mine's the full-stock model. The weight and length make it hard to maneuver. It has recently been replaced as house gun by a Tromix Saiga-12 with AGP Arms magazines; much handier.
The ability to switch between gas-operated semi-auto and pump is fun and cool. Overall, it's a fun gun, and gets extra points for menacing looks.

Mine doesn't have the hook, but I've fired it one-handed by pinning the stock under my arm and aiming with an attached flashlight. Bringing it on target is a problem, firing it is not. This tactic might have some value if you are using the other hand to open a door, but mostly it's just fun.

I remember reading that the SPAS was designed to be used primarily by police units, and the hook was to be used as a carry handle, and in a vehicular situation as a support for one handed firing out of the window. (sort of like the arm bar on a sling shot, except the SPAS hook counters the front heavy weight (in theory) of the weapon).

Any new points about SPAS.
I used it 15 years ago.
Its a blody nightmare to carry 12 hours a day such beast.
2 Eats everyting, every kind of ammo.if not works auto, pump...
3 If you show a bad guy such ....gun? you will never have to shot it. Impresive for both sides .
We were issued later with pumping Franchi Llama made and my back was happy with the change.
If you saw "Miami vice" Ricardo Tubbs carried the mini Franchi, thre were 3 longs , no stock 2 rounds, metal folding stock, fix stock short and long folding stock...thats 4....
Hook is simply a carring handle.

I love mine. I can lay down more short range destruction with my SPAS12, than with my G3, or any other weapon I own.

Yes, those are on target, and no, that is not "Bump firing". It's just that good a weapon.
