What filler metal do you guys recommend for welding the Cetme? And where do you buy it?
I was going to buy a copper clad 4130 rod through tigdepot.com but the site is offline.

Easiest way is to go to your friendly neighborhood welding store and tell and show the guys there what you are doing and they will have the correct rod. They will even probably give you some info if you are not a professional welder. If you are in an area where there are no stocking shop, go to your welding shop and they will give you several rods. Probably even do the whole job for $10 (That is what I get charged) Well worth it as it is way less than the cost of the rod unless you have other uses for it.

CK gave you good advice. Though to expand some, the filler rod issue goes like this: The 4130 rod you are looking at is fairly standard for welding carbon steel to carbon steel. If your receiver is Satinless Steel, you would be better off using SS filler even though you are welding it to a carbon steel trunion or what have you. And of course TIG welding Aluminum to Aluminum use an Aluminum filler. The intent is to as closely match the filler rod you use to the metals being joined as you can.
Hope that wasn't either overkill or too little information.

I'm building on a PTR receiver and doing my own TIG. No fun in having someone else do the work.
Just wanted to know what filler(s) worked best for folks. I was worried the 4130 might require preheating.
My other choice is ER802S-D2 which doesn't require preheating but is not as strong and more flexable.
I'm new to welding so without a lot of experience, I'm probably over analyzing.

get any mild steel rod for a stamped receiver
ER70s2 works great
the trunnion takes all the pressure, not the receiver - spot welds from a tong type spot welder are all thats needed to hold the thing in there. :)

Sounds good. Bought some of that when I got my tank and gas so I'm good to go. Just a little more practice first!
