Not sure why, but I think that is the nicest looking one on this thread. With the short barrel and the weathered wood that thing really is easy on the eyes. Nice.

That's about the neatest non-traditional rig I've seen. I'm refering to the green-meany with the varmit scope. If you will permit me to comment, please contact Vectorarms and get yourself an HK triple-point sling for that doll. They were less than 20.00. There's no other way to improve what you have!

No, the gun is cool and I like it don't get me wrong. It's definitely different than the majority so that is cool too. I was mainly mocking those hard line people that like to say, "If you want an AR, why don't you just buy one". It wasn't my intent to sound like one of them :) It looks nice, I have a rifle that has a similar look to it color scheme wise with FDE Magpul furniture.

Thanks, it was my first attempt at building one. I have a post ban Bushy, one of their m4'gery/A2 mish-mash carbines and wanted something a little different.
Yeah the CTR is pretty nice. I was actually going to get a 93B because I liked the way they looked, but when I went down to Ameetec last July or August to buy my bare receivers one of the guys had a pre-production CTR on his rifle that he let me check out. It was lighter and just as sturdy with a $50-$60 lower price tag when you include the mil-spec buffer tube assembly. With the black butt pad setting it off, it kind of grew on me. The thing is really wobbly, but once you lock it down it's pretty strong.
Oh just so I don't get yelled at for talking AR on the CETME thread, I guess I can repost pics of my siblings (yet again :)) since this is a new forum.

Well here is one with a paddle, I just got mine back together after three years of being in peices, all new parts except for the barrel and the compliance parts, I have a new barrel, cocking tube, and triple tree I might put on one day. I have a matching wood forearm also, just thought I would stick the "B" model one on for awhile.

the "great 308" where did you get the brown ( orange ?) stock set? i would like a set of them.
Hello Planning, I bought a G3 parts kit from Interordinance a couple of years ago and it came with the brown furniture. I had never seen one of these before. Perro and RTG said the parts kit was from an unlicensed G3 made in Burma. I do not think that interordinance have any kits left. I have been very pleased with the overall quality of this parts kit it actually looks better than some of the licensed HK parts I have seen. I love to be able to have lots of different looks for my rifles.:g3:

I refer to it as my franken-CETME. It started out as a Black Widow with a junk barrel. I replaced the barrel with a CFS used one, then welded on a G3 base, swapped furniture, added a paddle, clipped and pinned a G3 frame and finally sandblasted and refinished in Moly Resin. Its the favorite of all my weapons.

DAMMMMMNNNNNN!!!!! thats REALLY nice! Since its built and sold in Spain, is it .307 win like another member's rifle here?
How much does that rifle set you back in spain?
Also, is that a Hendsoldt scope on there? Did the Spaniards make a similar scope mount or is the only option for optics to go with German stuff?
icarus
03-30-2007, 07:23 AM
Yes, It´s a .307 but you can shoot .308 without any problem cause Spanish laws don´t alow .308 in semiautomatic guns, it´s a nonsense, they only made a 1mm drill in the diameter of the bolt and that´s all. Of course automatic funtion is not activated but nothing else. The price 700€, 800USD more or less.
The scope is a Tapco (a copy of the Hendsoldt) and work well, maybe 5 degrees canted I`d say, but it`s a #1 german reticle and no matter that canted. I shoot to 100m. on 50x50 cm. targets and I only see 9`s and 10`s I´ve never tried more distant cause here in Spain it`s difficult to find a larger shooting field.

04-01-2007, 11:22 AM
Yes, I do, from VA. The Cetme-L will be rebuild to .222 cause .223 it´s not allowed as you know here in Spain, but I think the rifle is pure rubbish. It`s the worst rifle that Spanish Army has had on duty in all Army History. In fact, has been replaced by HK G36. Made with cheap materials and It fails as a fair carbine. I would not want to have one though were a gift. Believe me, I have shot many times with it.

The model-L of Cetme is bad because the materials are cheap, but the prototipes of CETME L was very good, the problem was the serie build. The best riffle is the CETME model C ´´El Chopo´´. I think that The CETME C is the best riffle.

Hey you 2.... Please explain to us guys here this question we've debated before.
Is the Cetme called "el chopo" because the wood is Poplar, or just simply because it has wood furniture?
Its kinda been an ongoing debate in this forum and the "old" one.

The name of the chopo came of the Spanish mauser mod. 1893 and successive models that were made of wood. Soldiers called this rifle El chopo because of its wooden forniture and stockiness so when in 1964 cetme c was in duty the stock and handguard was made of wood, the old name "El chopo" was adapted again. Chopo is a Spanish tree It`s like Poplar or cottonwood in America. The word in our language means as an adjective sometimes, strong, tall and hard, so, we say " hey man, you're strong like a chopo" Ey hombre estás fuerte como un chopo ˇ I think this is the little story about " EL Chopo" At least an old and retired General told me. In reality the wood used to make mauser and Cetme-c is walnut not chopo.

That's interesting to know, thanks for the info icarus. I've always thought (wrongly) that the name El Chopo stemmed from a slang term used in an old 1930's gangster movie (can't remember which one) where they called their Tommy guns "Choppers". Being the Cetme is Spanish, I thought the two went together making "El Chopo". See...I learned something new today!:book:

Well guys, I think I'm finally done with my cetme for the most part. Here's a picture of what it looked like when I got it:
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v495/megaman590/P1110008.jpg
And what it looks like now:
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v495/megaman590/P4210078.jpg
The main obvious changes are the furniture and the scope. However, I also got a new complete bolt assembly because of the problems I heard about with Century original ones. I took it to the range last week and it shoots very well and I am very happy with it.
I'd like to thank all of the members on this forum for their wealth of knowledge on these rifles and the personal advice some people have offered me when I have had a question, especially The Great .308 for the furniture. :thanks:

nice Grifter... I love how they look withthe fake 3rd pin... the wood turned out great. What did you use to finish off all the metal?
grifter95
04-21-2007, 06:16 PM
jfowl31, the wood is finished with 12 coats of true oil (by hand, polishing b/t each) and the metal was blasted with 120grit AlumOxide then sprayed with Brownell's Teflon/Moly matte black and baked. It is amazing how the T/M can tells you how to use it. However, they also have a video guide available which tells you to use a totally different method. The video method is MUCH BETTER!

The second target pic: After shooting the above, I took the mount off the gun made an adjustment to the scope, and shot it a few times with the iron sights to warm it up good. Put mount back on and shot another 3 shot group. It measures 0.80 center to center.

I had a G3 while on TDY with the Bundeswehr when serving with the US Army in Germany 1960-63. That is why I wanted to have a CETME. This is my Century with Spanish wood added and some additonal US parts to trade off for the wood. I had the usual start up issues but after about a year of trial and error and a lot of help from guys on the old CETMERIFLE fourm she runs perfectly now with acceptable battlerifle accuracy (4-5 inch groups at 100 yards).

There is a process of burning the face of a wooden piece with a torch, and then steel brushing it before finishing to bring out the grain dramatically. Have any of you tried this with your Cetme (or any other stock)? It just seems that there is a lot of really pretty wood out there that is not as dramatic as it could be. This is a hell of a question to be coming from me, as I am a 'plastic' guy....
jfowl31
10-03-2007, 07:29 AM
Really, there' sjust not a whole lot of grain on the Cetme wood. Whatever wood it is, its grain is VERY slight, and doesn't really "pop" like some fine walnuts.
Some say the wood is Poplar (Chopo in Spanish), but my experience with poplar tells me its not since poplar is a very soft wood, and the stocks on a Cetme are pretty damn hard. Mine has some thumbnail grain to it that points to some form of Beech, which typically doesnt have a very defined or drastic grain.
One guy made one a while back on CR.com out of some curly maple with some REALLY nice fiddleback. He was going to start making them for everyone, but I think that fell through the cracks.

After admiring some of the very artful pics that members have of their weapons here, I decided it was time to take some new pics of some of my favorites. So, here is my G3, which I got cheaply from Sarco a couple of years ago. It's mostly a mix of Portuguese FMP and US JLD parts, with an HK bolt carrier. What you are seeing includes:
* G3 Bayonet & lug
* HK21 style cocking handle
* 30rd South African steel mag
* German G3 wood furniture
* US made trigger group parts
* canvas sling
* Tac Latch II paddle mag release

A morning at the range with my CETME and newly installed Hensoldt Z24 scope.
How on earth do you get a reliable "cheek weld" with a scope that high? I searched far and wide to get as low a scope mount as possible. Had to remove (temporarily) the rear paddle aperture so the scope wouldn't hit it and it's still a challenge to anchor to the stock.

Hi all.....
I posted a while back on a B forearm and bipod.
I decided to go ahead with it. Now have 6 options
with 3 sets of stocks.....black, green, wood.
Each with or without bipod.
I guess it's a poor mans way of having multiple rifles.

Thanks, I got it from a buddy of mine that had it left over after he sold his CETME. He had this set, which is complete. He also had another handguard and bipod legs, but was missing the bracket set that clamps onto the rifle. I guess those parts could be fabricated with the right tools. I only needed the one set, so I bought it. I'll probably kick myself for not buying the other parts if I get another CETME. It was a little pricey, but I thought it belonged on the rifle. Now with the scope and bipod, my old eyes aren't such a handicap.

We are shooting mannequin heads. Here's how we got them:
Shootinng buddy had a girlfriend that was a beautician schoool student. They get those heads with long hair, and they do diff haircuts all semster on them. The last is the buzz cut, then they just toss 'em. We said, "hey, we'll take a dozen" so we take a trashbag of heads to the range.
They're very resilient, the rubber is stretched cast over a foam core, and the bullets leave little black marks on them. Usually a rifle bullet is going so fast thru them that it won't even knock them over.
The other funny thinng is that they are named by the students. My fave is Annie, cause you can shoot her, knock her over, then say "Annie Annie, are you OK?" (Sorry, old CPR/Artificial Recussitation class reference)

Direct trade? No. :p
I am thinking I'll list the cetme for $650 (scope not included, I won't make someone buy the scope if they want the gun). Ideally I'd like something more around the $700 or, if I'm really lucky (not likely), the $750 range. $650 is what I paid for the gun, trigger job by Bill Springfield, the scope mount and the bipod, so I wouldn't be overcharging. I really want to get this thing off my hands so I can buy an M70AB2 (along with some goodies to go with it, like a J-Tac47 compensator).
Do you guys think that it'll sell for $650?

Either your a saint or something, don't sell yourself short. Ask $700-$800 for that thing. The time and effort you put into it. Better yet don't sell it and buy the m70 on your own. TIA
W&E
I really like my red dot a lot. It's so light and small, a stark contrast to the gigantic scope I had on there before.
PROS:
*Small (extremely lightweight (2 ounces)).
*The Burris Fastfire is a solid little red dot. It is metal and glass (instead of polymer and plastic) construction.
*The price was good ($175.95, no shipping. I got it from TacticalStore.com)
*The dot self adjusts to the ambient light conditions, which is really sweet. It's plenty bright when the sun's out, and it is dim in dark conditions.
*Battery life is supposedly really good
*VERY easy to sight in. I was amazed how easy it was.
CONS:
*Only a 1-year warranty, but I take care of my guns, so this shouldn't be a problem.
*The on-off switch would be a problem for those with bigger hands, but it's fine for me.
*If you ever did run out of battery juice (however unlikely, from what I gather, it's 4 years of continuous use), you have to take the whole unit off to replace the battery. This isn't too bad seeing how easy it was to sight in.
The Fastfire was originally designed for pistols, but it can handle my Cetme no problem (it's designed to supposedly withstand 1000 G's). I really like it and doubt that I'll be taking it off my weapon anytime soon.
jfowl31
02-13-2008, 11:44 PM
I looked at those Fastfires... almost pulled the trigger on one, but changed my mind and went with the ATN compact Red Dot.... its very comparable in size and features. I kinda wish it didn't have the auto adjust on light conditions, or at least an option to override it. It has 1 option to override and that is to make it full power, but there are times that I want it dimmer than it chooses to go.
Is that Burris multi-reticle? Digital or manual controls? I may get one of those for my G22, I mounted my old reflex sight on my 6.8 AR and broke it... so now I need a new one for the 22 and that one looks really nice.

Nice looking wood there. Tell us how you finsihed it ?
Well, I purchased a new stock set from the local cheaper than dirt, it costs $9.95... I started with 100grit and sanded down the factory sealant. The stocks come relatively rough. After about 10 minutes of sanding, I switched to a 220, and then finally a 330 grit which I overused and forced wood into the grit to create a cheap french polish effect. Then I stained with a dark red minwax stain, hit it once with a rag and wiped off 1 minute later, then 4 hours after that I did a heavy stain and left it on for 4 hours, wiped it clean and placed the pieces in an autoclave @ 150* for 4 15 minute segments, wiping excessive stain that bled out between each segment. Then I sprayed 10 coats of polyurethane gloss finish. I didn't wetsand the final coat yet, but with 20 minutes of careful effort you could make the finish as smooth as glass.

Some people don't like the shiny red wood look, I'll agree that it does make the gun have a russian flavor (which I'm definitely not a fan of) but I really wanted to give the gun a good rich color, and I'm happy with it - exactly what I wanted.
I had a few PM's about my scope and mount from another forum, so I thought I'd share some - I'm sure there are other members out there with the leapers G3 scope with illuminator.
http://jadefalcon.shackspace.com/Pics/Weapons/CETME_07.JPG
The scope mount is very solid, I really didn't expect much from it since it was only $30, and the nicer STANAG mount was anywhere from $80 - $120. However, I like the lower mount since I shoot between 100-250yards so the adjustment is not as drastic for range adjustments. And, you can still use your iron sights with the mount installed - which is nice.
http://jadefalcon.shackspace.com/Pics/Weapons/CETME_06.JPG
Here is a look at the reticle - definitely my favorite part of the scope. It has a about a 3" eye relief which is reasonable. I'll definitely agree that the scope doesn't transfer as much light as the original H&K G3 Hensoldt model one - but at 1/3rd the cost its definitely acceptable. Also the reticle illuminates a bright red when you turn it on - however if you wear corrective lenses it might cause some distracting aberrations in the scope.
