I was wondering whats underneath that 2A black paint and how is the best way to remove it. I read it is parkerized, does this mean I don't have to reblue it unless I really won't too? Does paint stripper remove the parkerizing?

the ones i have cleaned have had a very good parkerizing on them. it is really hard to get all the paint, grease, cosmolene, dirt, blood, etc. off of them. one of them took me days to clean up. i just oiled them up good and let it go after i got them cleaned up..

The paint comes off pretty easy most of the time. I used oven cleaner on mine (removed the wood first). You might try carb or brake cleaner or denatured alcohol first. Once you get it loose take a nylon brush or even your finger nail and it will scrape off.

+1, mine has about 80% park.

I was tempted for a bit to remove the paint on one of mine. That looks nice. Did they just slather on paint over the park as a corrosion deterent?

I think they did just slap paint on it as a corrosion deterent. Or for sale to the U.S. Mine is still broken down on my workbench. Be careful when taking it apart, some of the stock around the trigger guard just fell apart. It looks like there is some repair there i.e. pins sticking up. I will put some wood epoxy there to reinforce it. There is cosmo underneath the wood and around internal parts even though they are so clean when you get them. Some of the bolts are crossthreaded too. I don't think mine was ever fired before I got it.

Thanks for the compliments. The paint on mine showed wear, like it was painted, then issued. A note on my park wear, it's totally gone on the tip of the nose piece, the edges of the protective ears, etc. I still think it looks better than the paint though.

Well here is my 2A $99 special after cleaning it up a bit. The pics I took aren't great as the lighting in my basement isn't good, but they pretty much show it for what it is.
The metal was pretty nice under that ugly black paint, just like on my 2A1. No rust at all. Super nice mirror bore with sharp rifling.
I don't think these were shot much, but drilled and handled with a lot. Not a bad job on the wood repairs....notice the repair in front of the bolt handle and on the buttstock ends.
I put a fresh extractor spring in it for good measure that I had on hand. You can't beat these for the money though.

I think the fish and Game people accept a wod block or plug to keep you from puting more rounds than State allows in the magazine.
But I think all the really would check is how many you did load in the mag. In VA they used to sell pump and auto shotguns with a wood dowl in the mag tube for the game wardens sake. I never had a warden ask me if the plug was in or not. Just how many rounds I had in the Shotgun.
I am sure they would do the same for your Enfield

ProMag made some for these. They made them in 5rd and 10rd. I usually see the 10rds at gunshows for about $20-25ea.
Midway has the 5rders http://www.midwayusa.com/eproductpage.exe/showproduct?saleitemid=380899&t=11082005
Call Aimsurplus, they were taking out the original 12rd mags for guns going to CA. I bought a couple extra from them when I got my rifle. They weren't cheap though.
