Also have ground ground down rear of reciever to line up holes and have set the trunion in place and test fit my cocking tube. I plan on welding the trunion tommorrow and possibly pressing in the barrel if i have time.

Looks good! Is that the cast receiver? How are you going to use to weld in the trunion?

That must be the cast because my stamped doesn't look like that.

hulygan

:machinegun: also got a muzzle break from ptrk, so that puts my parts at 7 muzzle break, stock, sear, hammer, trigger, pistol grip, and reciever, should be able to shoot in a couple of weeks

Looks good,
just for reference you don't need to use stainless filler(wire or rod) joining carbon to stainless steel

ok thanks, thats good to know i was going to to be on the safe side.

I've been wondering about that, I have a cast receiver coming and I was worried about having to get it Tig welded. All have is a cheap fluxwire feed Mig welder. A buddy of mine told me that he's welded stainless to mild steel with his fluxwire mig welder, he said the welds are all dark and nasty looking, but they seem strong enough.
I figured that it's gonna be sorta like a spot weld and that I'm gonna grind it smooth then paint the receiver anyway.

so i did not have access to a press for my barrel so i made one

it may not look pretty but it got the job done nicely

We need more pics hulygan.

hulygan
03-30-2007, 09:06 PM
ok got some more pics. The camera ran out of batteries and i just got to lazy to pick some more up. heres the reciever with barrel and cocking tube installed

hulygan
03-30-2007, 09:10 PM
heres all the parts, i just have to install the shelf in the grip housing, assemble, test fire and refinish. Because somebody might ask, yes that is a
G3 lower and FCG, and i do plan on getting a different handguard.

03-30-2007, 09:21 PM
Thanx. Looks like it is starting to come together. Is this your first build?

hulygan
03-30-2007, 09:33 PM
Yeah its my first build so I am taking it slow and careful.

hulygan
04-03-2007, 10:39 PM
well everything has come together pretty well. so now I just need to test fire and solder on the triple tree. after that, I am going to refinish with duracoat, but am still deciding on a specific color. Also am trying to find a nice set of wood for it.

pigpen
04-04-2007, 05:15 AM
Not too shabby. Did you want the color to be close to what it originally looked like or were you gonna go with somthing else?

hulygan
04-04-2007, 08:12 AM
probably going with HK blueish black or a park grey.

roland3
04-05-2007, 11:27 PM
is that a us made stock and pistol grip? if so where did you get it?

hulygan
04-06-2007, 12:24 AM
yeah they are the us stock and grip. I got them from centerfire before they ran out.

roland3
04-06-2007, 01:38 AM
i cant find a us made part to save my life. a couple trigger parts on ptr91 website but I already converted my trigger pack. im just waiting for my reciever to get here any day now im ready to roll. I would like to get a stock set but the only place that had them ran out. the original wood on mine is crap. the hand guard is broke. I turned the threads of the end of my barrel because i live in NY. no threads or bayo lugs, folding stocks...., just pistol grips thats it. they adopted the federal AWB but made it never to expire. anyway. ... im going to make a press on muzzle break. and possibly a charging handle. so that will get me to 3 us parts. i guess i could make a pistol grip also. so add a thermold mag and I guess I could get by. it loooks like the kits and parts are drying up. my dealer told me century had only 10 of the cast recievers left when I order mine last wed. im calling tomarrow to make sure they ordered it. I was going to order a parts kit from century and they ran out of them 2 hours before I called. I bought the second to last one from copes.

Hulygan, thats a pretty damn good job man, congrats! We going to get a good range report to complete these build pics?

Man, what about a sticky for home made tools M1?

Hulygan, if you could post some drawings and dimensions and stuff for that homemade press, THAT would be awesome. It looks simple enough that anyone with a crappy car jack could make it.

The builds looking great huly.... I hope it shoots as well as it looks.

Come this next monday I am taking this to the reagne and can report back after that. Also i can post some more pics and some measurements for the homemade barrel press by early next week. Thanks for the compliments guys.

I just got the same reciever today. did you have to mill about .1" off the back to get the rear trunion to slide on and get the holes to line up? also was it a tight fit getting the front trunion in to the reciever? mine seems like it will have to be pounded in with a rubber hammer or pressed in.. also the cocking tube fits tight. what process did you use for setting the bolt gap?

jfowl31
04-11-2007, 08:36 PM
a couple guys have been saying that the back of the receiver has to be filed down to get the stock to fit on right.

Ive never heard of the trunnion being that hard to go in, but as long as it fits, it seems the tighter the tolerances the better IMO.

To set the bolt gap, press the barrel into the trunnion from the rear and check the gap until it is just right... set it to start out at .020, and pin it there. It will shrink a few thousandths or so after initial break-in.

roland3
04-11-2007, 09:20 PM
no, its not that it doesnt fit on , its the lenth of the reciever. there seems to be about a 1/8 inch on the lenth.when i slide the rear trunion on the holes are about 1/8" from linning up

jfowl31
04-11-2007, 10:30 PM
The trunnion is the heavy piece of steel that goes in the front of the receiver that the barrel presses into... The thing in the rear is just a piece of metal that attaches to the stock.

and yes, the length on some (or all) of the new cast receivers, the stock is too long in the rear and needs to be "fitted" as you described.

roland3,
I have two CAI cast receivers and they were both the same way. They were between .090" to .110" long on the rear of the receiver where the but stock fits. The cast receivers are tight on the ID dimensions. If yours are the same as mine, you'll also probably have to file the inside of the magwell front wall to get the mags to sit and latch properly.

cetme
04-12-2007, 06:39 PM
maybe I should be brave and build a spare cetme. How did you come up with the barrel press?

hulygan
04-12-2007, 08:02 PM
Well for the press, it was pretty simple. I am to cheap to buy a shop press, and after reading all the problems Drine had with his barrel press did not want to take mine to a machine shop. The press that is pictured is actually the second one i built, the first one had a couple problems. It was a scew press, really easy to do small increments but real hard to get a nice steady pressing pressure.

Where did you order your US made FCG parts from?

For G3, JLD parts

For CETME, good luck finding any. Most people are using the G3 trigger pack inside the CETME grip frame.

could you describe the barrel pinning process you used.
was an oversized pin needed?
