I used to go to these when I was a kid, I'm guessing that like wrestling, they have gotten a little more showbiz. That's okay. I'll have to keep an eye on the paper to see when one comes around here.
Do they still ever have a real tractor pull?

We built a couple of these back in the 70's. We used to hang out at Midwest 4 Wheel Drive in St. Louis, home of Bigfoot. That was around the time of Bigfoot #2.
Man we dropped ALL of our hard earned money building those.
We would get stuck so far back in places, almost nobody could get to us. If it was bad enough you could only get somebody from the Midwest Four Wheel Drive Association to rescue you. When you get a monster truck stuck, one rescue vehicle won't cut it.We got one stuck so bad we had two
4X4 trucks and a jeep hooked up to pull one off the side of a BAD power line road.
We did get to drive them over some wrecked cars. My buddy came within a hair of flipping end over end.
Turned one into a submarine in the Merrimac river. Man, that one was f****ing funny!

Its all a big put-on show now... I go in hopes of seeing one flip over.
Last year a truck called Barbarian went over backwards in the wheelie competition, and after they wreck, they just go balls to the wall, and h flipped it again doing donuts.
I can't imagine how cool it would be to go mud bogging in a 1500+ HP truck with 60+" tires on it.

This is about the size of them when we were doing it. Looks like a peanut compared to them now..

Right now, we've got a half built Jeep rockcrawler thats just sitting and rusting on a friends property. We gutted it, and put a full external roll-cage on it, and boxed and beefed the frame. Added clearance to all the wheels, and ran out of money when it came time to put in a 4-link suspension. Also, after torching and welding all around an in the engine copartment, I think we fried the computer and we can't get the damn thing to start.

I think that is Bigfoot 1
Lol! Computer! I remember putting a Borg Warner electronic ignition in a 75 Chevy 1/2 ton 4x4 .That was a big deal then. I bought the kit at Midwest.
Roll bar, bumpers, lift kits, cams, intakes, headers,Monster Mudders, multiple shock kits. The list went on and on.
Hell we helped to pay for Big Foot!

Now its crate motors, fiberglass bodies, and a helluva lot of tube steel for the suspension and frame. They are pretty damn impressive if you are into engineering to get under them and look at all the drive angles, and engineering that goes into the suspension. What amazes me more than anything is the power though. Seeing one get 10' of air in a little bitty expo center like Austin has is quite impressive.

I'll be there wearing my new OD mf.com t-shirt and probably an NRA hat.

worst show EVER... PERIOD!
I'm pissed I wasted my money. There were 4 monster trucks. and they rode over 3 cars a piece. No dirt inthe colliseum. The ran on straight concrete, and couldn't do crap. None of them went anywhere near all out like last year... all in all a VERY disappointing way to spend $20 and a Saturday night.
The only thingthat was even remotely neat was the freestyle motocross guys... but they only had 1 ramp and 2 riders....... so as cool as that can be I guess.
if you didn't go and were thinking about it... be glad. If you did, I'm sorry. I am sure you were just as disappointed as I was. I even saw little kids that were disappointed, and the little kids ALWAYS love a monster truck show no matter how crappy.
