The rifle's new MSRP is $2256 , and the scope is $400, plus the mount. That sure doesn't seem like enough savings to me to go in to debt over. Also, I doubt he paid MSRP for the rifle.

It is a matter of if you want it or want to wait to get a new one and set it up like his.
Since you know the guy and how many rounds through it I would say buy it if you think you would be happy with it, if you really want something else more then I would say no.

Then why go into debt NOW over a single gun?!?
I dunno man.....
IMHO...if you have to go into debt to buy toys then maybe that in and of itself should tell you the answer..
I'm a big proponent of saving up for something. Working hard for it...then buying it...But that's just me. Most folks would rather make Citi Bank wealthy than themselves....Sounds like you are very good with limiting personal debt...so I would say that a $2200 debt for a gun is a bad move..

I would never go into debt for single gun - Unless I could re-sell the thing and make a bundle on the deal. Save your money. He wants too much for it anyhow. :nonono:

...or if it was a deal of a lifetime and you knew you weren't going to see another like it for a long time. that sounds like a pretty good deal, but for $2200 there will be plenty just like it later if you decide to save up for it instead.
that's my Voice Of Reason advice.
if it was me i would probably ignore the Voice Of Reason and jump all over it anyway. :)

Do some math. Is it a 30 dollar or 300 dollar scope mount? Did the scope cost 200 or 800 bucks? Used firearms, in very good condition seem to bring about 75% of current MSRP. Look at the gun auctions. I would have no problem going in debt for a firearm, but only if I knew I would have it paid off in 90 days. I do that all the time.:icon_biggrin:
