Hyall,
A lonely clone CAI Cetme contacted me on the internet one day and wanted to meet me at the range,
Let me say, I was unsure from the get go as her last relationship ended badly and her reputation was dubious, but I agreed and...
Now I'm in love with this Spanish /American darlin', consider me sold on the roller lock style bolt mechanism.
I honed her hammer and sear so sweetly, I steamed and scrubbed & rubbed her stock till it showed that she was originally blonde. Clean and lubed, I checked her gap...A little tight but she obliged with little pressure.
Now understand, I wear glasses and I'm out of practice, but check the target and sure enough...NIce iron sights right on the money!
Although one shot seems to have penetrated ?SIDEWAYS? I heard one really whistle!
This rifle is a pleasure to shoot, all she asked from me in return is a new set of rollers and plenty of attention.

Welcome to the forum. Glad you like your CETME.
I was putting bullets sideways thru a target one long time ago. I immediately realized that I had the rear sight on my Garand dialed all the way down. I was bouncing the rounds off the ground and into the target. Not a bad pattern for bouncing bullets either!!

Didn't the Germans reseach bouncing bullets and curved barrels to shoot around corners?
Not sure about that one shot but I'm definately not hitting dirt at 200M.
This target is the size of a 10" paper plate:

Uh, does this constitute gun pr0n? ;)
"Germans reseach bouncing bullets and curved barrels to shoot around corners?"
-->Research smesearch...they built the gun that shoots around corners. I have a book with a pic of it.

Yes, Germans made a barrel attachment for the MP40 with a curved barrel and a small mirror for urban street fighting.

We got that one weapon that was on future weapons a while back with the barrel that pivots, and the LCD screen of what its aiming at... It even had a grenade launcher that could shoot around corners.

Jettag, what were you shooting into? If it was a berm perhaps that was a rock that came through the back-side of th target?
Id be weary of any shooting session that involved a bullet going in sideways.

This was out at the shop where I dump all the wood chips we make durring the work week. Pile of shredded wood chips is like 30' tall & a 1/2 mile thick!
I thought bullets only fly sideways when you shoot 'gangta style', or if you shoot old AK's long range.
First time I've seen a .308 do this in 30+ years shooting...
My guess is something like an electromagnetic vortex!

Jettag,
You didn't mention what type of rounds you were shooting but there have been instances of bullets deteriorating in flight causing aerodynamic instability which results in the bullet tumbling.
It's a rare occurance and it usually will happen in jacket bullets where the jacket begins to come off during flight. But even lead bullets have been reported doing the same.
Another possible cause is an occassion undersized bullet that doesn't make tight contact with the lands and never obtains a complete proper on the bullet before it leaves the barrel.
Another possible cause is an erroded (to some degree) barrel.
A trip to a reputable gunsmith might be in order here.

Saw that one, it is a definite improvement of the idea.

:welcome2: sometimes CETME's are a project from the start other times they run like a top!
