Please do not shoot this through thick sheet metal where it can get really hot then veer off to the top of a ridgeline and start a fire. You will not be happy if you do and you will smell bad when you are done. Also it will cost you a pair of shoes and maybe a trip to the hospital for smoke inhalation. It is very accurate though and "surefire" :) just make damn sure it goes into a berm instead of thick sheet metal. Night.
So where you the one that started the fire in cali?

maybe the one we had in the swamp yesterday. Yes, there is a swamp in Las Vegas. Catches fire every year.
I know. I know. I can't talk.
Yes, tracers can catch brush on fire.:icon_rolleyes:

Bring good boots and a smile, you're gonna need it. :) Come the end of it, sneakers just don't cut it. Trust me. :(

Well, at least thats the best theory as to what happened.
And it will melt a pair of good boots just as bad. Im taking a shovel next time... I can just imagine explaining THAT to the cops if I get pulled over...

I sense a story in there and all we're getting is the moral to it. Spill it.

First off, the theory is sound, but not definite. I like it and believe that to be the case, but did not sleep at a holliday inn last night, so...... OK, best guess is that the silvertip 7.62x54 went through a thick metal box and the bullets were hot enough to start a fire on a not too distant hillside. There, I said it. :( Not being prepared to fight a fire, some footware was lost as a result of the "exercice".
(not admitting any guilt, it could have been someone/thing other than us that started it, we just put it out.)

With almost any ammo, with dry brush conditions you need to be careful with setting fires with ammo sparking off of rocks, especally any steel cased or steel cored projectiles. Thus you dont even need a steel back stop to start fires.
Being shooters we need to be better than just the average car thief(I heard the last big fire in cali was started by a thief lighting a car on fire to destroy evidance), and not start wild fires

I've been wanting to go out and zero a new scope. Earlier this week the weather was perfect, sunny and highs in the mid 70's, except that everything was bone dry.
After listening on the scanner to the local VFD responding to brush fires, and my neighbor catching his neighbors pasture on fire I decided not to risk catching my place on fire. :sniper: :flame:
It's since rained, but now the temps are just above freezing. I might try shooting this weekend.

Sorry, I couldn't help laughing quietly a little to myself imagining the mayhem. I'm sure it wasn't very funny at the time. I happen to work for a major athletic shoe on-line retailer (the retail store employees wear referee striped shirts (cough)). Lemme know if you wanna use my discount to replace your footwear.

I do appreciate the offer, but I have to try them on, as I have found that just looking by size for some reason doesn't cut it for me. I have found that I can wear a 10-12 1/2 depending on the brand and style. I still have to go pick up a new pair in the morning though. And yes, it is funny afterwards. When we first got up the hill we knew we were in deep sheep. Thankfully it was mostly just leaves and small brush and just burnt outward in a circle, but it was over 100' across and growing. :(

The lesson here is to allways keep a fire extinguisher in your car.....

The lesson is to keep a helicopter full of water on speed dial. You couldn't carry enough fire extenguishers up that hillside to do much. But yes, Rusty, that would be good to do just in case. :)

Hey, get yerself an extinguisher fer sher, and go to your army/navy and get the old wool OD army blanket. Not only does it make a good shooting blanket, rain shelter, shock blanket etc, you can put out a flaming car engine with it or smother flames on a person with it, and it'l be no worse for wear (well, some grease stains and singe marks can orrur-YMMV) dont ask me how I KNOW... but get the blanket.
Where'd you get yer silvertip? Online? All I saw at the Gunshow was some Bulgarian and Hungarian in the galvanized/soldered steelcans, no OD tin cans this time.
Was it the yello/silver tip combo?

--->Oh, the guys from the baltic/scandinavian country area?
The FINNISH Line? :crazyeyes2: I thot they only sold skis. :)

Enigma brought the silvertip, not sure where he got it from, but he had enough. :) Had the nice silver tip in the blue boxes and looked new, real pretty for as old as it is. I'll definitely look into the wool blanket without asking any ????s. Thanks.
