Just checked out Centerfire Systems website today. All the CETME kits are gone and there will be no more. Ordered one last week and they told me they had 7 left. Thought you future kit builders would like to know. I guess Gunbroker and Century are the only game in town for kits.:icon_cry:

crazy, I guess I shouldn't have thought they had an endless supply of cetme kits, I thought it would take a lot longer for them to run out though.

CETME kits have been selling for a while now, they arent just a new thing on the market, thus why FAC made the aluminum receiver to build your own at home with no welding.

P.S. I remember when the fal kits came in to the country, now they are all gone, but I think it was century that was selling L1A1 kits but indian for sixty nine to seventy nine bucks, and not much more of others. Thus like all good things they come to an end and prices will go up from here.

okie shooter,

i have a CFS kit and am getting some parts togther to build a CETME. you make mention of the aluminum receiver being used for home builders. i have tried to research the different receivers and have had little luck. what makes the aluminum rec a better choice for the home builder? i am looking for any advice you can give as i know very little about these weapons. thank you for your help,

The aluminum receiver allowed a home builder to just take the sheet metal off of the trunion, and pin the trunion in the front of the aluminum receiver. This would eliminate the need to weld the trunion into the receiver but makes for problems if you did anything wrong(and potentional problems with the pinning and streaching of holes). They also had a weaver/picitanny rail machined into the top of the receiver elimnateing any scope mount problems with standard rings. There were rifles commerically built on this receiver too, some by FAC(Never could find if they actually built them or some one just assembled them and fac then wholesaled them, The company which is now defunct and part of century who bought the remaining invintory of parts and such) and Springfield built some rifles with this too(though if you go to their site they almost disclaim any hk style rifles now)

When first searching for a cetme, I ran across one of the aluminum receivered builds that the seller was stright up with me that it was a problem child. Federal arms corp(FAC) sold a great many parts and rifles to both as a wholesaler and home building croud as they had a great selection of parts for fal's, cetme/g-3, AK's and almost any other kit that came along.(they would be like a christmas list of stuff from submachine guns, wwII semi auto rifle kits, light/medium machine kits and even some heavy machine gun stuff) They seemed to be at times in bed with many of the fabricators of receivers and have had links to many of them.

There are a couple of folks on the old board that had these receivers and every once and a while you hear of one coming up for sale. Like said earler they allow you to build without welding but wont take many of the hk accesories out there, but should actually build acceptable rifles that look kinda of funky compared to the cast stainless and stamped steel receivers out there.

Just my comments on this, you can find plenty of photos by doing a search on google or yahoo for aluminumed receivered hk or cetmes. The springfield one I handled at a gun shop here locally was a green anodized receiver, the cetme I bought was actually black anodized I believe.

thank you for the prompt reply. from my what little i know, i was thinking that a stamped steel rec would be the way to go, weld it to the trunnion so everything would be tight. i am not a tig welder but i have access to one at work and would learn on something else before the time came. not to hijack this thread, but, i was going to use surplus stocks, so i would use a thermold mag to get 3 parts and that leaves 3 to get besides the us rec. i have heard about using ?hk91? h/t/s and ?trigger box? that are us made. these things will fit into the cetme trigger housing??? any direction here is appreciated and well as opinions of what rec to purchase. thank you for your help,
