If I was to get strictly a bird gun I'd get an over/under. But really I can switch out barrels on the Mossy 500 easily enough that it fullfills all the shotgun rolls.

yea, and i wouldnt want a dedicated single use weapon, as woodman says, modify the mossy for your needs at the time, so it could be ur bird gun for a few hours, then back to ur "under the bed tac/home defense" shotty

I use a SXS for flying birds and other small game such as Rabbit , it works fine. But a single barrel for Turkey.
But If I had my choice I would rather have the O&U for flying birds.

Cant say I've ever used an over/under. I usually use a pump, and every now and again I'll use a side-by-side just to mix things up a bit. I hate to say it, but occasionally I need that third round :icon_redface:

When a young man, I had a over and under in 410/22 an old savage or something similar, then a 20 ga pump, still have it, then later on picked up a beretta semi auto, great gun (80's) then late in the (80's) used a friends 101 over and under, was sold on it, couldn't find a 101 so came across a citori, 12 ga. over and under been shooting it since, have even picked up a stoeger 20 trap model over and under, very nice shooter, still have the old mans side by sides and use them on occasion quail hunting, I'm so slow, if I dont hitm by the second they're so far out there they look like bugs.

The Army Air Corps bought at least a few of them as survivial guns for Pacific Air crews. I don't know if the issued them in the war, but at least a few in the late 40/50s. They had a serious debate on the fear the Japs would use it on the captured pilot's head.
(The Geneva convention thing, no shotguns, no hollow points for battles)
The 4.10 Shotgun and 22. hollowpoints were the issue. They settled on 22. fmj and 7 1/2 birdshot. The whole rig fit into a leather or canvas bag and the butstock held extra 22s and shotgun shells.
The Germans had a far nicer rig of a 12 ga SXS with a 9.3 rifle under barrels.
The thinking was
The Stukas pilots could then take down big game such as lion, and hippos.
Ah those Germans.. they alway want to one up everybody.
We put a rabbit gun in an Avenger they put an Elefant gun in a Stuka
