The O+ Win in the white boxz good, albeit, expensive.
Ordered some, Midway's service was fine, no complaints...soft primers?
I've heard some units in Iraq ordered directly from them because they ship so quickly! Could be b.s., do our troops do that?
Should they have to?

The troops do what they have to to get by, and NO, they should not have to. The troops get what they need by whatever means at times and try not to get caught. I've ordered from midway a few times and had no problems, but 50.00/100 just seems high. Of course, so does gas at 2.50/gal, but you get used to it after a while and then when it goes down a little, you splurge and feel better. It is just that false sense we have, they get us used to high prices then drop them a little and we go crazy. They make a killing. At least I don't get sale ads from Midway with a sale price of 29.99 and the reg price is also 29.99 like some other places. :)

I buy from MidwayUSA a lot. Typically once a month. I don't blame them for the high price of true 7.62 NATO. It's simply the economics of supply and demand. Right now our nation's fighting men and women need this ammunition more than I need to build a person horde of it. One of the reasons I am getting in to reloading is so I can continue to shoot without having to pay elevated prices. Hell, if I had a large surplus of some thing that was getting significant money I'd seriously consider selling off some of it to at the going price. People do it with any commodity. People get dirty rich if they do it enough with the right commodity.
What's starting to peeve me off is that brass is getting expensive and that'll start cutting in to my shooting. Availability is also being impacted.
That all being said I was lucky enough to pick up six boxes of that same ammo for $6 per box at the local show earlier this month.

The Midway 7.62 is the cheapest I've seen it lately. At that price though, it's still around $500 for 1000 rounds.
The last time I bought some milsurp I believe I paid around $200 for 1000.
:icon_cool: i don't think the win is surplus its fresh and people are paying $.50 around for stuff thats 30-40 years old. i think the win is reloadable also?

My CETME doesn't mangle these cases too badly if I can find 'em...
Anyone thought of training your dog to hunt brass?

I usually take the boys out with me and bring baseball gloves. Try to hit the target with the bullet, and hit the boys with the brass. :)

Guys I have been a brass scrounger for quite a few years. It has really gotten bad trying to find brass laying at the range. Not only are more guys reloading but more prople are doing what I do and scrapping what they can not use. I don't even find the non reloadable brass cases much anymore. First thin my buddies and I do when we get to the range is start searching for brass. All goes also at this feat. I used to be the only one who did it they gave me their brass and thought I was nuts and cheap. Now they reload and scrap brass they even will try and beat me to the good brass at one of my Honey Holes. We all shoot 5.56 and it is a free for all. I can not remember the last time I found any 30-06 brass. I pick up .22 brass and I am even finding less of it. Going to a gun show tomorrow, maybe I can luck into some once fired 8x57 cheap. I am babying the only 28 pieces I have. I would hate to have to go and buy NEW 8mm brass. I can't believe I once gave away several hundred pieces of it to someone.:1087:

How old were your boys when they started shooting?
My son has accompanied me since he was two, but at that age I insisted that he stayed in the car or cabin.
Now he wants to trade in his .50 MMG for a real one...

that loosk like a .50 MMG, marshmallowgun!
"50.00/100 just seems high."
-->Well, for new US production NATO headstamped brass, that ain't bad. As the other milsurps have dried up and spiked in prioce, this stuff has remained at this price for 6+months. It's almost woth buying 100 or so just to stash back...I mean, this stuff will be good for your entire lifetime, if stored properly.

Well, they are 9 & 11 now and we have been shooting together for about 3 years. My wife shoots as well and she does very well herself, I must admit. My oldest boy can hit a coke can with the AK at about 100' and the wife can hit it with my Ruger GP100 357 with 6" barrel. My youngest one is coming along, he just aint got enough body to him yet.

My dad taught me how to shoot on my 3rd birthday. We were in Podunkville west TX, and that was sorta the norm. I shot the Marlin 22 (with him holding the weight of course) with him at the local dump at the sinks and toilets.
Got to shoot the muzzleloader at age 4 (50 cal), and the 22-250 and all the pistols at age 5. By that time, I could hold the 22 by myself (barely).

My dad owned 3300 acres in Mineola Texas on the Sabine River. Lots of Cayotes!

we were in Midkiff TX... south of midland, just an el paso natural gas plant with provided living and a supposed 9 hole golf course. The golf course was a big pasture with 9 flags stabbed in the ground. Thats where most of our coyotes were killed, and where me and my brothers would go rattlesnake hunting and rabbit hunting.
I didnt know until I came here to austin that it was out of the ordinary to walk onto oyur front porch and shoot an animal without even stepping off the porch.

I reload all my own
At my indoor range guys don't pick up their brass...just sweep it forward of the line
Even at Quantico a lot of people don't reload...picked up 100 KA 30-06 2 weeks ago--hard primers and had to trim them all but they cleaned up nicely, crimped primer pockets and all
Maybe too much money to burn in Northern VA, but I'll take advantage of it:sailor:

So the WINCHESTER 7.62 NATO uses the thicker brass? Or is it just the usual WIN brass?

In center of the picture is 8x57JS Lellier & Bellot.
To the right is an unknown, stamped 22 at the top and 74
at the bottom. Case is a wee bit shorter than the other two.
To the right, and on the stripper, are from boxes marked:
"15 Cartuchos "SS" Cal 7,92mm" and:
"Ejercito Ecuatoriano" Picture must be a bit distorted,
because the stripper contains the same rounds as the
loose cartridge on the right.
I've got one box of the L&B, about 18 of the unknown,
and 11 5rnd strippers of the latter.
Any of that of any use to you?
If so, let me know, 'cause you ain't gonna BELIEVE the deal I've got for you....

Randy,
I was looking for reloadable brass. I think what you have is berdan primed surplus. I allready have my rifle sighted in for my reduced load reloads so I don't think your stuff would be much use to me. Just my luck it was probably a great deal.

Actually talked to a vendor at a militaria show this past weekend that had a bunch of dummy guns.tripods, etc. He told me that he had Marines calling and ordering a n adapter he makes to put a PKM and ammo box on the US tripods, etc. He said they're calling and ordering them with their personal credit cards. They're telling him that the 240b's and 249's can't come close to the reliability of the PKM's,...

99bux for 200rnds of new NATO 762 ain't sounding too bad...I wonder if it is more accurate than S-African (which seems pretty darn accurate and consisten outta the CETME and the Kimber bolt gun)

Well. last time I got SA it was close to $50 for a 140 rd battlepack. So 50 per 100 for new, reloadable is a good deal.
I got 2 cases from Midway a couple months back...

A local shop near me is selling Indian for $80/200rds. So Winchester for $20 more doesn't sound bad at all. Of course, with the Winchester, you don't get the bandoliers or the adventure.
Actually, Midway runs this sale every few months. Previously, I thought it was overpriced. Not looking so bad anymore.
