They start to suck again when you get older...

As you get older, what you get doesn't matter as much. Just who you get to
spend it with, and who you no longer can.
Sorry to be so maudlin.
Woodman started it with the Whitman,in another thread.

Yeah, it sucks when you reach that stage in life, and suddenly realize that NOBODY is around to buy you underwear anymore.
OTOH, the ladies at work got me two quarts of quality alcohol, and "Scoop"-type corn chips, and some picante sauce and some queso dip, so, I'm good to go.:airtight:

I drove home to spend an early Christmas with the folks before I move further away. Ended up getting stuck in MN with the storm. Just got back to MI in time to head to church and spend the holidays with my girlfriend's family. I hope I get some socks and underwear so I can be lazy and skip getting it myself.

Got both. Did Christmas with my mother in law and my wife's grandfather tonight, and my side of the family will be over tomorrow for dinner. So far, I scored several books (Unintended Consequences being one, and another on tanks), and some smaller tools and such. Tomorrow, Christmas dinner is here at the construction zone, and the nieces and nephews will be about. Especially good, because my one brother is getting his daughter. He and I will be preparing venison tenderloin wraps and frying a turkey. My wife will handle the rest (I'm perfectly happy with the wraps myself). I'm just glad we are able to have everyone together who can be here. Family is the important thing.

I got some T-shirts from the wife, and a nice LLBean shirt from mom. Haven't got any ammo for Christmas since dad died. Kinda miss that, we used to go skeet and can shooting on holiday's for some reason, then come back and have dinner (if it was a dinner holiday), or go out if mom was off visiting relatives.
Wife got lots of loot, liked my gifts the best -- just hope she remembers that when the UPS man shows up with 500 rounds of 7.62 for me :icon_biggrin:

This year I was more of a giver than a getter. I'm in the process of filing bankruptcy, so funds are tight this year. A few relatives decided everybody should only buy for the kids this year. That would be fine with me except we only see the kids we buy for at Christmas. At least my little guy (16 months old) got alot of nice clothes & a bunch of toys. A couple of kids on my bus (I drive a school bus for now) gave me boxes of chocolates & a couple gift cards. Got a little cash, but had to use it for gasoline. The wife insists on driving a couple hundred miles on Christmas eve (her side of the family) & day (my side). Next year is gonna be different. This driving around all Christmas is wearing me out! I was hoping for a new (old) rifle or pistol, some ammo or a WW2 combat knife. A Havoc heli woulda been sweet. After the bankruptcy, we'll probably buy something for each other. I did get a new modem for my computer, though. The old one fried out for some reason. I'm using my backup computer right now.
BTW, I'm 45 & the parents are gone, so nothing from them.

My Daughter gave me the full DVD set if Ken Burns' WWII TV series. My son brought me a six-pack of Japanese beer that he picked up while working there last month. A fellow retiree from my company gave me a great WWII book called Cat 39 about combat photographers.
Something to drink, something to read, something to watch, toys to play with, and something to sleep in when I am done...my life is complete.
