The cheek slap is the price.........:bash:

Here is the description...........

"Carbines have been refinished and rebuilt at least once and will exhibit in most cases varying degrees of wear on many parts. All the carbines have late features such as, adjustable sights (heavily staked) with bayonet lug bands and rotary safeties. Metal parts are mixed USGI. There are no carbines with early features. All are mechanically sound with good headspace. Bores will have some heavy pitting and exterior finish may show significant wear and some surface pitting. Muzzle will gauge over a three (3) on gauge. Stocks are replacement Italian marked M2 birch or beech pot belly type or USGI walnut but having seen heavy use with rebuild marks (no original stock cartouches remain). Most stocks have the “FAT” stamp / cartouche (Fabbrica Armi Terni ). Wood is sound, but will have dings, dents, gouges and cracks that do not affect the function of the carbine. Carbines in this grade show considerable use and wear.

Inland $419
Underwood $479
Winchester $575
Quality Hardware $479
Rockola $575

Is it just me...................or is this the worst deal of the century?!?!?! Worst part about it is that it raises the market value of the other decent carbines out there.

Before CMP released their Italian return carbines, I would see $500 to $600 ALL USGI carbines on Gunbroker all day. NOW...there is a $200 to $400 addition to those same carbine prices now that CMP has asked top dollar for bottom barrel carbines....

Don't get me wrong......CMP has it down on Garands.....Just seems NOW that they are making my decision on a carbine too easy.................

I've been quiet on this for too long. Now is my time to vent amongst my gun-family....:icon_biggrin:

:icon_biggrin:These ones I saw locally prior to CMP sales were in the $600-900 range and the cheaper ones looked like they had been used as clubs. I purchased two Inlands and an Underwood (Service Grades)for a little over $500 each from CMP and am very pleased with them. I was looking for shooters but was pleasantly surprised by all of them. Maybe for once in my life I got lucky!

We never saw all USGI carbines under $500 in Florida. Lots of people (including my dad) bought the CMP carbines because they were a good deal. Of course, he got his in the first batch.

it seams this is going to be a fact of life. everything seams to be rising in price in the gun world and fast. there are a lot more people buying guns today than just a few months ago. some people that never had owned a carbine bought one thru CMP and now want more. the want is driving the prices up a lot and quickly. CMP is aware of this and pricing there guns accordinaly.

i have not seen any of the bottom barrel carbines for less than $500 in a while and most have been in the $600-$700 range.

the carbine i got from CMP was almost new and a several people got one like mine ( like mikey), but some got 1 not as good and did a lot of bitching about it. maybe they are just describing the worse case senerio and if you get one in better condition there will be less bitching. IMHO :airtight:

A local Dunhams had three carbines in the rack before Christmas and
I would bet that they are still there. They wanted $629 a piece and they
were the absolute worst that I have ever seen, I honestly never seen
one in worse condition at a gun show or a box of surplus parts for that
matter. The good ones must be hiding somewhere still.

Century brought in some carbines from Guatemala about the same time the CMP ones hit. Supposedly, they'd been stored in the middle of the rainforest for about thirty years. Those might have been some of those.

My Inland from cmp is in very good condition. I was real happy with the price based on condition. The carbines that I see here at shows have been and still are alot more than the cmp ones. There was one guy selling cmp Inlands for 750.00 and he had alot of people lookig at them.

My buddy bought a CMP carbine when they were first offered. He paid $495 for an Inland & it came with a sling & oiler. They did not come with any mags. Anyway, it was in super-excellent condition, had the FAT stamp on the stock, bayo lug, etc. For the price, it seemed like a steal. The bore was nice & shiny, too. Here in Illinois, any of these at gun shows go for at least $1,000. Sometimes more. Funny how people looking at M-1 carbines for $750 don't even know about the CMP. My god, people...Do some research!
